Anyone else getting rubbish sleep due to pelvic pain in bed?? Bit of a moan sorry...

Am 8 months pg now and dread night time as am soooo uncomfortable. i get about 2 hours sleep then wake up with horrendous hip and pubic symphysis pain that refers down my leg to my calf. It does ease when I turn over to my other side but then starts again about half and hour later.... and so on through the night. It's a relief if dd wakes and I go to her in the night as being up is easier and so getting back in bed is then more comfy for a bit. I lie on my sides as being on my back, while loads more comfortable, makes me feel 'funny' - massive weight pressing down on me (am huge this time ). I use a belt during the day and a big unsightly bit of tubigrip around my pelvis at night but not really helping. I also have a pillow between my knees - poor dh, I am a fat, trussed up and v restless bed mate at the minute. Feel like need tugs to turn me over at night. Is anyone else suffering or is it just me moaning? Any tips on pillows, positions (sure must have tried them all but you never know...)??

you are not alone heavenlylily. SPD is horrible, I'm 34 weeks and have it really bad too as do quite a few of the mums to be on the Fab Feb 2009 thread (ante-natal section - holy shit this is it) come and join us for a whinge and tips as assume you must be due in Feb too?

Actually due first week of March but will look at the ante natal threads. Thanks for advice!

I feel like I wrote that whole message heavenlylily, I am exactly the same and only 32 weeks, my bump feels really heavy now during the day, does the pelvic band help? I sat pretty much bolt up right in bed last night and managed to fall asleep like that, 3 pillows behind my head, 1 under my bum and 1 under my knees, I was about 3ft above my poor husband!! Not an attractive sight... wake up every hour to turn over which is a mission in itself. At least I've guessed its SPD and not the baby getting ready to make an appearance, I'm still at work and sooooo not ready for him just yet!

Good idea from Hedgewitch. I had terrible pain at night when I was pg with dd2 so I can sympathise. I folded up two spare duvets and slept on those on top of the matress.

We also got a new bed towards the end of my pregnancy it is one of those memory foam topped ones and it was heaven so if you can afford a memory foam matress cover that might also help.

am v restless and uncomfortable at night too-keep waking up with aching hips and have to heave myself over

like you i can't lie on my back-though it's not so bad if I have about 4 pillows! it's hard to sleep almost upright but it gives my hips a bit of a rest

2 more months to go aaarghhhh

CatIsSleepy · 14/01/2009 12:56

oh and poor dh has been sleeping on the sofa bed since before xmas as I kept giving him such a hard time about his snoring

CaptainKarvol · 14/01/2009 13:01

Another one here, also looking for tips.

I was fine in my first pg - it's taken me a few weeks to cotton on to what this pain is.

For some reason I expected SPD to be in the hips, but this is centre front of my pelvis, then my bum at night.

I still co-sleep with my nearly-3 year old, so pillows and padding are a bit of a vain hope as I think he would nick them, plus he needs 'biiiig cuddles' at least twice a night when he wakes

xxhunnyxx · 14/01/2009 13:02

I'm only 15 weeks and I'm already in agony and really struggling to get comfortable in bed. So God knows what I'm going to be like by 39 weeks!
I think mine is partly due to me being in an RTA back in May tho, although I was virtually recovered when I got pg.
Boooo hoooo

I used a v pillow (£7 from dunelm not special maternity one), when led on side sort of tucked it under my bump then between legs.

I had bad SPD too, accupuncture helped me, immediate relief for a few days.

Onthe plus side i had more sleep after both mine were born than before so actually found the night waking/feeding easier. For me SPD pain did go immediately after birth so hang in there.

Some helpful advice there!! Will try a bit of padding under me and give the V pillow a go as I think I've exhausted every option with normal pillows! Got a good friend who does acupuncture - may try it out. LittleBok The pelvic belt is called a Serola SI joint belt ( about £30 from www.advancedbiomechanics.com and has helped durng the day, especially when I'm on feet a lot - its not comfy to sit down in though as it digs into my bump. The tubigrip I use is size K, have only tried this the last 2 nights but think it may have helped a little, although it does end up rolling up a bit which is annoying.

Another one here. I'm 26 weeks with my second, and am in agony. Have a body pillow which helps, as well as half the quilt as a support under my legs. Turning over a major operation though...can't believe I have another three and a bit months to go...[wails]

Snooch · 14/01/2009 13:37

Oh my goodness I just had a bit of a rant on another thread about the dreaded pelvic pain, mainly on my right side round my lower back, bum, hips and thighs, but hurts whichever way I lie....had such a bad night too and only fell asleep around 5 am for about an hour before I had to get up again for DS1!! Only 30 weeks on Friday and have had it since about 16/17 weeks this time But yes, rather a lot bigger this time round! I use about 4 pillows to support various body parts and it's such a pain having to rearrange them every 5 minutes when I toss and turn to find a comfy position. Was also virtually pain free after the birth of DS1, with whom I had it from around 29 weeks, so yeah, hang in there!
