Am fairly sure I'm coming down with the dreaded UTIs...
When I first got a BFP they found white blood cells and protein in my urine, now my midwife has found very low levels of E Coli in my booking urine sample, she's checking another one now but said if I feel crap before the results I should skip along to my doc.
I'm starting to feel crap, that whole needing to pee when you don't thing and some abdominal aching and pressure I think I was earlier mistakenly blaming on jnr, and generally feeling run down. Should I go to the GP tomorrow or wait til Thursday for my urine test results from the MW? Am thinking soonest mended and all that... I really don't want a full blown kidney infection. Has anyone had one, if so how fast did it develop?
Any other things I can do - apart from drinking lots of water and cranberry juice - til tomorrow?

Thanks HedgeWitch. Love the screen name too.... nice to think I'm probably not the only one hanging onto pieces of rose quartz and moonstone. When are you due? I'm expecting a Lammas lad or lassie...

Don't wait for the symptoms (they might not turn up - for some reason mine didn't until my kidney was infected...) ring and try to find out about results, if you go in they ought to be able to do an instant test anyway.

I have had a UTI that became a kidney infection. It moved fast! ie: two days. Go see the doctor asap. I ended up in hospital.

Poppet45 · 14/01/2009 20:55

Hi guys

Thanks so much for all the kind messages. I did move fast and after getting an appt with the nurse this morning I'm on my meds now, am already feeling much better and realising that some of my pregnancy rundown-ness was due to much smaller little blighters than jnr... that is so scary that it can turn in two days. I'll bear that in mind in the future.
And hedgewitch, I'll take a look in that section tomorrow. Can feel myself getting sleepy right now so I know I won't be on much longer tonight...

Can I ask, which AB where you prescribed for the UTI? I had a course of Amoxicillin and didn't do anything.

heverhoney1 · 15/01/2009 11:56

Amoxycillin does nowt for me either! I am on Nitrofurantoin My midwife said it was ok to take at my stage - 24 weeks (leaflet says it shouldnt be taken during labour or delivery!!)

Gemzooks · 15/01/2009 15:58

really drink a LOT of water and juice and take some vit c tablets.

Also, when you wee, lean backwards and really make sure you squeeze the last bit out. My cousin is a doctor and she gave me this tip and it stopped me getting it all the time. It's because a bit of stale urine can pool in your bladder and breed bacteria if your bladder isn't emptied properly...

hot water bottle on your back as well.. keep your feet warm too.

ask them for a strep b swab at 37 weeks as it's linked with UTIs.

hope you feel better soon, I had UTIs for years, not so much any more because less sex!

Poppet45 · 15/01/2009 20:15

Hiya I'm on a three day course of cefalexin and it seems to be doing the trick thank god.
Cheers for the heads up about strep b too...
hey ho another thing to worry about!

Thanks so much for the replies! So helpful. Am still waiting to hear the lab results for the urine test to see which AB should work. GP prescribed Augmentin which is not a good choice so am waiting to hear the results first....am v scared as it's now been untreated for a few weeks and worry that it could cause harm. Had blood tests though which were all normal.

How much is a LOT of liquid? 3 litres? 4 litres a day?
