Going on holiday at 30 weeks

Hi. I am thinking of flying to France for a week's holiday in the first week of May, when I'll be about 30 weeks pregnant. Any thoughts on whether this is a good or bad idea?

TIA

I have had several miscarriages and 3 early births. I certainly wouldn't fly in the 1st or 3rd trimester. Best check with the midwife, though for a professional opinion!

Just realised, it's only France. So, channel tunnel would be my advice!

Take your notes and make sure you have adequate insurance. And have a nice holiday. I too would recommend the train. I flew to Prague for the weekend at at about 28 weeks and it was really uncomfortable on the plane. DH had to shout at the guy in front as he kept recling his seat right on top of the bump so I was wedged in!

Many airlines wont carry you after 28 weeks unless you have a dr's note.

I am going to Italy at 29 weeks and also flew in the first trimester...

I'm 30 weeks and would rather a short flight than hours on the train or car. If the airlines are willing to take you, it really depends on how well you feel imo. I'm not looking forward to the 7 hour drive that we have to do for a relatives wedding in about 3 weeks, I'd much prefer to fly!

You will most probably need a doctors letter to confirm you are fine to fly at that stage and will need to check your insurance. If you're having a straightforward pregnancy, should be fine - any complications, would probably be wise to reconsider. I flew in third trimester in my last pregnancy and this one too (though 30 weeks was the latest I flew at for both) and was fine.

Thank you - we live in Edinburgh so my thoughts are that I would rather be on a plane for just a couple of hours than on a really long train or car journey. Checked my travel insurance and I'm covered during pregnancy so at least that's okay.

You will need to check with the individual airline.

HOwever, I was once on a flight where a woman went into labour very early. So be very sure....

Ah, Edinburgh - that makes a difference then. I drove from Southampton to Scotland and it took 13 hours so flying is better than all that travelling. But, it is a risk and it's your choice at the end of the day. Walking across the road is a risk and you have to weigh it up.
Good Luck x

Do just specifically check what stage your insurance will cover you though. Mine will only cover any trips that are completed at least 12 weeks before my due date - ie I have to be back before 28 weeks or no cover.

I flew to the Maldives at 27 weeks and then to Spain at 30 weeks with no problems - you will need a letter from your Dr though. I had no problems with teven the long haul fllight so I'm sure you;ll have no problems with the short hop to France.
