Booking in with midwife

I have my booking in with the midwife next Monday - can anyone tell me what they'll do (I've already had my scan and nuchal testing)

Also, once I see the midwife this time around, how often will I have to go afterward?

Thank you!

Hi lastbox,

They'll ask you lots of questions about previous medical history and send you for blood tests probably to check your blood group and antibodies, iron levels etc. They'll weigh you and check your urine (for protein I think, but I can't remember!) They'll probably listen to the heartbeat too. It involves quite a lot of form filling and checking you've understood any information you've been given. They are also trying to assess whether you are high or low risk of complications either during the preganancy or at birth.

Make sure you've checked when your last smear test was, because they'll ask that (and if you're like me you won't remember).

Your appointments will probably be 4 weekly up to 34/36 weeks.

Oh yes, they'll probably book you in for your 20 week scan as well.

I saw my GP first, then the community midwife at around 9 weeks who booked me in for my 12 week scan.. no form filling really, didn't check me over or anything. Then at my 12 week scan I saw another midwife who went through my family/partners family history, weighed me, checked my urine, explained a load of stuff that i've now forgotten had bloods taken, booked in for my 20 week scan.. and that was that. Funny how everything happens in a different order in different parts of the country
