Mucus Plug Lost @ 32 weeks? Advice please!

Hello there, just need some advice pls!

Am 32w with babba #3. Had some red spotting last day or 2 (when I wipe & on panty liner) & now had a pink / yellow loss. No more braxton hicks than normal although a few sharp twinges and the odd trapped wind type cramp this morning. Otherwise fine, out & about as normal.

Could it be a show?

Induced with both DD1 & DD2 (MANY years ago) and never had a show with either of them so totally clueless (I'm so ashamed lol).

I should be having my first C section this time (unrelated problems with my downstairs area!) but wonder if it may be worth dropping a call to the Midwife just in case there is anything sinister going on?

Also, baby is lying transverse (since 20 weeks!) so I'm pretty sure its not how she's lying. I'm not one to ring the midwife unless its REALLY neccessary so any advice would be great!

Many thanks ladies! x

I'd phone the midwife as it does sound like the show. You probably have already. Same happened to me at 33 weeks and it was confirmed as the show. I was taken into hospital as I live in a remote area but it turned out that labour hadn't started fully so was sent home. Went into labour at 35.5 weeks and had DS 4 weeks early.

Thanks Jenice. I haven't called the midwife yet....I think I will though!

Woke up with a tiny bit of pink loss this am, and have had 2 panty liners this am with a yellow loss. (God I'm so sorry for the detail lol) Like I said, I feel fine otherwise...just puzzled! I also live in a remote little village and its a pain in the bum having to trolley around everywhere (have visions of a 3 hour wait in antenatal to be examined lol).

May ring the GP as the first port of call. Will update soon, many thanks. X

Yes do ring them if you haven't already! Never had a show either so clueless about that but as far as I know all bleeding in pregnancy should be checked out (had a fair bit in early pregnancy). Hope it's all going OK, and that you're not being kept waiting somewhere! x

clouiseg · 12/01/2009 15:48

Hello purplemyrtle! You've been helping me out on the Childbirth thread about my CSection lol!

God only knows why nothings ever simple lol.

Just been to my surgery on the off chance that the nurse may be able to help but no, she won't touch me as I'm highly pg! I rang the antenatal ward who asked me to come in and be checked etc. So now have to organise care for my older 2, getting them fed early etc etc!

The whole reason I didn't rush off there in the first place is that its SUCH a hassle dropping my girls off and organising everything....! They said it may just be a bout of thrush or something equally minor but they want to check my cervix (and make sure its not my hind waters).....oooeer!! I explained that I feel perfectly normal but hey ho lol.

So no doubt my Monday will end up eventful and busy....wish me luck ladies!

Sounds like the show I had. Got your bag packed? The books say up to 2 weeks after a show, but my MW said 2 days and she called it right...

clouiseg · 12/01/2009 15:56

Lol @ the bag packed Notreally! Yeah its been done since 24 weeks as I had probs with low waters at my 20 week scan. People think I'm organised....but its more like doing it before I forgot lol

God knows I hope its not a show as I'm only 32 weeks and she isnt fully baked and ready to come out the oven yet lol. Heres hoping its something trivial eh!

Good luck with it all - keep us posted?

purplemyrtle · 12/01/2009 16:29

Hello, stuck at home with flu, son at nursery, so online a fair bit!

Hope it's not a show too, although she'll be pretty strong by now, and even if it is it could be a few weeks yet.

Good luck wishes for a good Monday without too much hassle!

mrsfossil · 12/01/2009 16:49

hi please try not to worry. my sister had a show at around 32 wks then went nearly a week over. My friend had a baby at 32wks and although a little small she is now 9.

clouiseg · 13/01/2009 08:53

Awwww ty ladies. Purplemyrtle, get well soon! Well my attempts to get some clue of whats going on were pretty worthless!

Trolleyed off to the Antenatal ward and (as suspected) was left in the waiting room for 2 hours as a steady flow of well dilated ladies made their way in lol. When I did get into a room I was told that as its my 3rd baby and she is moving fine, they won't bother putting me on the monitor (?) and just to do a wee (which was STILL in the loo when I left) and to strip down so they could check me.

I stripped down and explained at the same time that I just want it confirmed that I havent had a show or any leaks anywhere! And if I didn't see it myself I'd have to get DH to confirm I wasn't seeing things....the midwife had a household torch pointed 'there' while the doc examined me. Yes a large, dog walking, garage pottering, hand held TORCH hahaaaaa. DH and I couldn't look at one another for fear of roaring with laughter and I didn't want send the speculum shooting across the room lol (if only my pelvic floor was still capable!!). Anyway that aside, Doc said there's no evidence of liqor (phew!) but took a swab to check for infection. I did ask about my 'plug' and she said they can't tell as they can't see it! ???????

I kinda hoped they might check my cervix, or pop me on the monitor to check babba but they were really busy (story of my life with this hospital!) So off I went home again too tired to bother arguing (had DD's with us as no childcare!). Mental note to self....win lottery and GO PRIVATE lol. Can't imagine Victoria Beckham gets this treatment!! hehe

DH reckons if I complained more and didn't play it down they may sit up and take notice- he may have a point lol. So still none the wiser but hoping all's ok. Thanks again ladies for your help! X

Poor you, I should thank my lucky stars for where I live, although I live remotely the local hospital maternity unit is amazing. The don't offer neo natal care which is why I was flown away when I was threatning early labour. When I did have DS at 35.5 weeks I was the only person in the ward for nearly a week so had three midwives all to myself and got so much support. Everywhere else seems to have a shortage of midwives but we seem to have more than enough and if you have a problem you get seen straight away and they are really thorough as they are not under so much pressure as many units.

joyfuleyes · 13/01/2009 11:14

Do you have a day assessment unit seperate from the labour/antenatal wards? They are usually much better that delivery suite - the protocol here is that anyone who comes in gets put on a monitor for 30 minutes.

honeyapple · 13/01/2009 11:17

hi
I had a show with number 3 at about 32 weeks- MW said very common and that your body just renews it- then I went 10 days over...

purplemyrtle · 13/01/2009 11:28

Glad to hear things seem OK, bit crap they didn't put you on the monitor though. Place where DS was born were obsessed with monitors. In the middle of the night. For hours. Think they thought it might make us leave them alone! lol at the torch, visions of a big stanley toolbox full of speculums and the like along with wd40! Knackering when you have to take kids isn't it? DS sees the hospital as one big adventure playground.

Actually looked on the net to find out cost of private csection after nightmare with DS - 10 grand!!!!! Posh and Becks we are not!

Don't hesitate to harass them if you get any more trouble though, maybe you'll get more sense out of them at your appt?
