Just that really!
I'm almost 31 weeks and the little one is still breech, kicking the hell out of my bladder
And if she remains breech, what happens next? Do they try to move her manually, and if that doesn't work am I resigned to a c-section?
TIA

DS2 was breech right up until 36 weeks, so don't worry, although I know you will because I did at the same time.

If she stays breech they may offer manual turning. Apparantly it doesn't work very well though.

As ofr the c-section it depends on the hospitals policy. If you don't want it then you need to tell them.

Another ones whose LO didn't turn till 36wks

they didn't really go into what would happen if she didn't turn, didn't want to stress me I expect

If it's your second pg, the baby normally turns much later. My first pg turned at 28wks!!

About 34 weeks. I went to a beer festival and was stood up for about three hours, sipping four halves of real ale. Oh what fun!

fourlittlefeet · 11/01/2009 20:49

get yourself on this site, mrs!

BakewellTarts · 11/01/2009 20:51

Me too...DD2 still breech at 38 weeks before turning the right way round on her own. Theres still time for your baby to turn. ECV is usually offered but I understand it can be difficult and not comfortable.

Best of luck.

Try getting yourself a preg yoga dvd (active birth centre do one) and do a lot of their on all fours exercises. Apparently the old wives tale of scrub your kitchen floor a lot has some truth in it. It worked for me. Plus the rest of the exercises are great too.

Hi
I was going to sugest the spinningbabies website too. Aparently acupuncture can also help.
I'm 31 weeks and my baby seems to be turning summersaults. It kicks and wiggles all over the place so it has not settled on position yet.

firstontheway · 11/01/2009 21:11

Wow that's good advice everyone, thanks! Website looks great!

It's first baby, I am panicking slightly as heard that after about now, the baby gets too big to turn by itself in the womb. But from what you've all said, that sounds like rubbish

Am spending lots of time on all fours at the moment and need to stand up at lot for work, so hopefully she'll click into place soon! Also, as a sideline... is it the weirdest feeling when it finally happens or do you barely notice? I'm just thinking that when she sometimes moves around (rather than just kicking iykwim) it feels ever so odd!

um... no you will fee it when she moves. DD turned from breech at 34 weeks. oucha. can still remember exactly when and where. apparently scrubbing the bottom of the bath gives the requisite space, impetus and movement too.

firstontheway · 11/01/2009 21:16

LOL I see... something to look forward to then!

good luck! you can also do visualisations and 'talk it into turning'.

36 weeks here
it was v sudden, and i absolutely chucked my guts up - to the extent it was coming out of my nose
once the vomming had stopped, i realised i could breathe properly for the 1st time in weeks
he stayed head down pretty much from then on

28 weeks - but that was more when they started palpating. She was breech and was born that way as a breech baby at home.

If your baby doesn't turn by themselves it isn't a case of "ECV or CS", although the hospital may present it that way - if you can find an experienced MW a vaginal breech is an option you could consider.

"Breech Birth" by Benna Waites is very informative and has a chapter on complementary ways of encouraging your baby to turn (moxibustion is quite popular). "Breech Birth: What are my options" by Jane Evans is also worth looking at. I felt both books gave me a much more balanced view than the NHS registrar I talked to. And google Mary Cronk.

If you are interested in the vaginal breech route, just make sure you are clear that what you want and what your HCPs are offering are the same thing - this article by Mary Cronk sums up the different approaches quite nicely.

Fingers crossed for you

39 weeks for me - the night before my elcs. When they scanned me on the operating table they found she was head down and sent me home! A scan 2 days previously had shown she was still breech. They thought she was too big too turn but she found a way so still plenty of time for your LO yet.

LoveActually · 12/01/2009 13:04

Don't worry. You have loads and loads of time. I put up a post on this, was worried when m/w check up at 32 weeks showed baby was still breech. Everyone told me not to worry, within a couple of weeks she was in optimum position. She did it while I was asleep, all that lying on my right hand side may have helped. Saying that baby was due yesterday, still waiting!!!
