Was in tesco, suddenly felt v damp, thin liner, & my underwear & time we got home my jeans slightly too!

DH aksed what was up as apparantly my face went all funny..

Just home, I have an overwelming urge to be sick, lower weird nggly sensations - kind of crampy, kind of different but no pain at all.. I feel very werid, no pain, no discomfort, just strange, and kind of spaced out, not relaxed, not panicked..

I am assuming it was discharge/pee But there was no colour/real odour..

Am I ok to sit it out at home for a few hours & see what happens or should I try and see someone now? If so, emergency GP, A&E or find number for the Maternity ward, I have no clue! But they're all in the same building which is about 35mins away by car, then there's ds to get looked after..

Sorry for the silly question & Thanks!

Missy, I have just been though this. My waters went completly at 22 weeks and i gave birth on NYE at almost 28 weeks, my son George is doing really well.

If you waters are leaking then the best advise is get the Drs to give you the steroids to mature the babies lungs, Do absolutly nothing.. don't go up the stairs, lay on the sofa all day and make people run around after you and something i found which made a lot of difference to how much i leaked - drink a lot, i used to have 2 of those bottles of flavoured volvic water on the go all the time and if i drank more then i found i leaked more and i figured that that must mean that baby was producing more with more chance of keeping some of it in !

fingers crossed for you :0 x

Thank you WM, it's good to hear things can be ok. Just been told they're changing my consultant to someone they think is best for this situation, I should see him later on. Tomorrow is the day I can have steroids if they decide are required.
Hoping will be able to go home and do nothing like you say and agree to lots of monitoring, but we don't have a day unit here. Also only have a small SCBU, and if he required surgery he'd have to go to Liverpool anyway. But really hoping things settle and we can keep him inside and on the Island, I hate the thought of having to leave my ds here for what could turn out to be weeks.
But obvioisly whatever the doc says is best is what I will do!
Can I ask how much support your son requires in the unit? They keep telling me 28 weeks is when the odds turn massively in our favour. Xxx

Just been given a super dose of antibiotics, another to follow in 12 hours. Protein +1 in my urine, unsure what it means though.. :/

thinking of you MissyK, hope your little one stays put as long as possible x

sunshineday · 12/01/2009 11:33

protein in water is a possible water infection? I think. hope every thing settles down for you.

WorzselMummage · 12/01/2009 12:48

Were told that he'd almost certainly need ventilating as its the amniotic fluid which matures thier lungs and that becase i never built up much (never more that 1cm) after the initial rupture that his lungs would be in poor shape. He didn't need ventilating and is only on a litle bit of cpap, he's proved everyone wrong really.

We were told that 28 weeks would be a turning point too and i made that my goal.. almost made it too at 27+5 !

I always had protein in my wee, they said with a premature rupture of membranes they would expect it as there is protein in amniotic fluid.

You might find this site helpfull, it was a lifeline to me as was Mumsnet.. my post on here kept me sane

anything you want to know just ask, there are several of us on here that have been through it.

will be thinking of you

hi, sorry to hijack this thread,
I have a similar problem, went for routine 20 week scan this morn only to be told that fluid is low, have felt a little damp for a few days (thought it was just a bit of discharge) but they suspect my waters are leaking.
I'm only 20+5.
I've been given the antibiotics and sent home to rest. Is it weird that i don't feel any real leaking though? I feel quite normal really, except sad and worried.

WorzselMummage · 13/01/2009 12:19

Citybranch, sorry you've got this worry too

I was told that waters that are leaking quite often reseal themselves over time so hopefully that'll happen

Did they do a speculum exam or anything ?

I think its quite normal not to feel the waters coming out, i could feel it sometimes when it felt just like a period but other times i'd only know i was losing anything because my pad was wet or because i'd be able to hear it when i went to the toilet.. i think because you know how much noise a wee should make if that makes sense.

what have they said about check ups and steroids ?

ilove · 13/01/2009 12:24

I hope everything is ok for all of you...

MissyK · 13/01/2009 14:55

Hi everyone

I've been sent home
The contractions have slowed and are a lot less intense so the druga have worked. My fluid levels are looking ok/good & they can't see any of more leaks.
I've had massive doses of antibiotics & now home to have lots of rest, all they could do in hospital was monitor me, and decided I'd be best at home and a cmw could come & see me for check-ups.. On strict instructions to call if anything changes but hoping nothing will & I make it as close to term as possible

Hi just read your thread. Hope all goes well, please lots of rest, best wishes all fingers and toes crossed

Idrankthechristmasspirits · 13/01/2009 23:13

Best wishes. x x

citybranch · 14/01/2009 13:38

That's good news MissyK

I was back at hospital yesterday where they did the internal exam and they are not sure either way if I'm leaking or not, on the antibiotics + bedrest anyway to be on the safe side. However, they don't have an explanation for why the fluid is so low if its not a leak! I have a scan in 4 weeks to check the fluid levels. I have had a rotten cold for a month and I wonder if I could have been dehydrated which has reduced my waters? My hospital don't seem to have many answers! I really really hope its not a leak, but am going to follow all advice on mumsnet as if it is, until I know some more.

MissyK · 14/01/2009 14:38

HI citybranch

So you're in the exact same position as I am. Also not got any real answers, just drugs & rest, call back, scans etc, but hey, it must be the best that they can do, sometimes no one knows what causes things!
They're still screening my bloods & urine hoping to find an infection but as time goes on it looks less likely they will.

The senior community midwife phoned this morning & is coming out to see me at home tomorrow at 10am.. though I am not totally sure what about there are talks to be had I've been told Surprised it's not just a cmw though - I'm scared of the big boss lady!!

I'll let you know what she has to say about things, there may be some useful info

Feel free to email me at any time - after all I'm not exactly going anywhere!!

Hi

Yes please keep posted on your chat with the midwife. I'm trying to research into Low liquor levels now (without the leaking, that is), as one doctor i spoke to doubts i am even leaking.
Well I am at my mum's trying to rest as best I can. Good luck tomorrow. Really, where would we be without mumsnet? I have never known anyone who has been through this in RL so its nice to get the support on here.
May drop you a mail tomorrow if i can get online! x

jeanjeannie · 14/01/2009 15:35

missyK Just seen the thread. Same thing happened to me and it sounds like your hospital is fab! Plenty of rest - and avoiding infections - so best out of hospital!

My waters went about 24-25wks and I got to 33 before an infection caught me out. My DD1 is now 2 and perfect!

I was told not to bath - just shower - as if there is a small leak (I had a slow hind water leak) then bathing could pass infection from the water.

My water levels were monitored closely - but DD was actually plugging the hole - so the water used to get very low - then rise back to normal. It was a rollercoaster - but we got there and I'm sure you will too - especially as you've got loads of care surrounding you

citybranch · 15/01/2009 16:45

How did your meeting with the senior midwife go, MissyK?
