We had our 12 week scan on Friday and he came to that, but my booking in with the midwife isn't until a week on Monday. Should my DH come with me?

he can if you like but mine didn't .... it isn't very exciting!

bodiddly · 11/01/2009 13:44

actually I don't think mine came to any midwife appointments just the scans

WowOoo · 11/01/2009 13:45

Mine just coming to scans.

MrsMattie · 11/01/2009 13:45

Nope. I wasn't bothered about him coming to MW appts, just the scans.

paolosgirl · 11/01/2009 13:46

No, mine didn't. I had my booking in appt first, as it's the midwife here that then books you in for your scan. As bodiddly says, it's not a very exciting appointment - blood pressure, weight, that kind of thing.

ephrinedaily · 11/01/2009 13:46

No but ask him about any hereditary medical probs in his family if you don't already know - they asked me at both of mine about things like severe jaundice, heart probs, some other things I can't recall.

reikizen · 11/01/2009 13:47

You have late booking appointments where you are? We usually book between 8-10 weeks. Anyway, it's nice for them to come as it's a lot of info to take in for you. They can also offer family health history from their side. It is also a nice way to start your relationship with the midwife, she can meet you both and you both have chance to ask any questions, his may not be the same as yours. It usually takes about an hour or so.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 11/01/2009 13:47

Nope, he didn't come to any m/w appts, just the scans.

Tbh, I found the bit where you have to produce your pee for them to put a dipstick in a bit embarassing so didn't really need an audience.

You can imagine how well I then coped with the indignity of childbirth

heverhoney1 · 11/01/2009 13:50

My DP is just going tot he scans. I prob know more about his family history than he does as I am better at keeping track of these things. I did take my mum with me though as a bit of support and as a boost for my baby brain as I am quite good at thinking of questions to ask and then forgetting to ask them!!

chaya5738 · 11/01/2009 13:52

My husband didn't and I am glad he didn't. It was very uneventful. Also, the midwife will ask you if your partner ever beats you (domestic violence increases with pregnancy) so she may not want him there for part of it.

llareggub · 11/01/2009 13:56

He did for my PFB. Now he doesn't even come with me to see the consultant.

ohdearwhatamess · 11/01/2009 14:03

Mine didn't, or to scans (other than early viability scan with ds1), or to any appointments. I didn't see any point and knew he'd get impatient and be annoying if he had to wait around.

lizziemun · 11/01/2009 14:15

Yes, but only because the midwife do booking in visits at home on a sunday. So it was more a case that he was here.

He has only come to scans never routine appointments.

MsG · 11/01/2009 14:21

Mine couldn't come to my first booking in appointment but he came to my next midwife appointment as we listened to the heartbeat. I'd quite like him to come to them all just in case I forget anything and it's nice for him to be involved. But really, he didn't miss anything by not coming to that first one!

kayzr · 11/01/2009 14:23

Hi LBOT!!

My DH came to nearly all of mine with both DS's. I know my MW likes them to come to the booking appointment as they need to know his family history. Plus I am scared of needles so I need him at any appointments where she takes blood.

Thanks everyone. I think mine is going to have to skip this one. It's at 3pm, which is really inconvenient for both of us work-wise Obviously I'm given the time off, but it would be difficult for him to take the time off, especially since we both just took an entire day for the scan.

Reikezen over here you see your GP and they refer you to the hospital - booking in and scan are usually within a few days of one another at 12 weeks. Mine is a bit longer this time around because I had a reassurance scan at 8+4 (due to previous mc) and they moved my dates, which made the nuchal scan too late to get the correct measurements. They had me try to move the booking in as well, but they couldn't give me anything earlier.

Mine has come with me to all midwife appointments but one so far. He doesn't need to, it wouldn't bother me if he didn't come, but he likes hearing the baby's heartbeat, and I think it's helping him bond with the baby a little bit.

littleboyblue · 11/01/2009 15:00

With our first my dp came to booking in and to most mw appointments, but this time, he hasn't been to one, only to the scans.

Wonderstuff · 11/01/2009 15:06

iirc booking in appt very dull as were all mw visits tbh. My dh just went to the scans.
LOL chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS, my dh hates blood so I was glad he wasn't there to see the handful of vials (sp?) that she produced at my booking appt. (It was fine, only took a minute didn't hurt, just looked like a lot of blood)

MKG · 11/01/2009 15:17

My dh came to the 20 week scan with ds1, but no appointments.

He didn't do anything with ds2 because of his crazy work schedule.

He hasn't been to anything with this baby either (32 weeks today), but that's because he's home watching the boys.

LoveActually · 11/01/2009 15:53

Mine came with me to nearly all M/W appointments and all scans. But then he works from home (as I do) it would probably have been different otherwise. Like Anathema my DP likes hearing the baby's heartbeat

Pinkbump3 · 11/01/2009 16:11

Mine didnt come to booking appts as they are long and boring plus he hates to see them taking blood from me as they always have to do it from my hand with a cannula and he hates to see me in pain!!

If he is off work he comes along to other appts as they are only short appts and he gets to hear the baby now. in the early weeks the mw wont try to hear the baby anyway so your dp wont be missing out in that.

leftangle · 11/01/2009 16:11

Mine came to booking in appt as is was directly after 1st scan. Turned out to be useful as he didn't know his blood group (I'm rh -ve) so she took a sample then for testing. He's not going to the other mw appts though.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/01/2009 16:12

Yes for dc1 No for DC2 but came to both the scans
