Has any1 been told by midwife that 20 week scan shows that the placenta is at the back which can't be right because midwife can identify it at the front???

I had my midwife apt this morning (35 wk) and after she listened and found his heartbeat she said the placenta is at the front and then she reffered to the 20 week scan notes done by a hospital sonographer and said that can't be right that she has recorded it to be at the back??? The sonographer at the time did take a very long time and had difficulty as baby was moving so much. I didn't have much faith in her at the time as she wasn't the pleasantest person either but I just put it down to her concentrating. The midwife put a mark by the side of the detailed scan note that she had written and said that can't be right. Do you think this could mean she has been inaccurate with her other findings and even telling us baby is a boy? Has anyone else had a wrong assessment on a scan or check up?xx

i don't know about her accurary but i think the placenta can move - particularly in that length of time - mine was prosterior at 16 weeks (back) and anterior at 20 weeks (front)

That's strange the midwife said it couldn't be correct, but that did occur to me that maybe it moved. I always wish I asked more in depth at the time. Thanks for your reply.

I'm more surprised that your midwife says she knows your placenta is at the front just by listening with the sonicaid. Its true you can sometimes hear the blood flow through the placenta with a sonicaid but it doesn't have to be at the front to be able to hear it. the only way to know where a placenta is, is by scan, or at caesarean section!

The other lady that was there I presume another midwife agreed too??? I don't really unerstand how she knew all she did was listen and feel around, she could only get proper heartbeat on my left side tho so i presumed thts how she knew as the placenta was in the way but i'm no expert obviously. I don't suppose it's harmful as i'm sure she would've sent me to hospital but it's just got me thinking. I had two hospital staff and one doctor tell me the anti d injection is a man made substance and found out after I was right and they were wrong. I was measured in the hospital and then my midwife queried it because the measurement didn't add up with hers. I'm just a bit concerned that each time I go to hospital I get a contradicting opinion and a lot of women i know tht have given birth in this hospital have had troubles. My friends baby was supposed to be head down yet she came ou bum first, my over friend had complications that left her critical and it has since been descovered it was the hospitals fault. Im prob being dramatic I just don't trust much they say and things like this make me think too much maybe.
