Help me I am in agony

I am terrified I am starting with SPD again.

I am 20 weeks and have been getting pain in my legs and hips for three weeks not severe but achey ,I had SPD during my last pg but it only got bad when I was 38 weeks until then just niggles.

Since last night my inner thighs hurt and my calfs and ankles do too its awful and the only thing that eases it totally is a bath ,if I put them up and stretch them out it helps but it is constantly making me aware they are aching. The only way I can describe it is the feeling you get when you start exercising again after a long break or you have run/walked too much.

It hurts to get up of the safa or bed and is agony when I crouch down for anything ,I have 5 other dc and its never hurt like this .

Baby fine kicking away and I feel fine in myself just can't stand my legs hurting so much .

Do you have your Fembrace from last time?

Mine started at 23 weeks first time and is starting again and I'm only 8. I'm thoroughly miserable about it.

Ask fro a Physio referral and start doing your exercises.

Good luck x

I didn't have a brace last time I had a crappy MW who told me it was just normal pg pain ...it was after I told the MW who delivered dd who told me it was SPD .

I am thinking of going and seeing my GP but I am seeing the consultant next Friday so could talk to him intead .

Sorry you are getting it so early .

phone your midwife unit/maternity hospital and ask to speak to the physio, she/he can get you a brace asap wouldnt wait till friday as you need some relief now.

Hawkmoth · 08/01/2009 15:27

Agree, get the brace now.

And be careful re seeing your GP... last time mine immediately signed me off work! I missed three months of a six month contract! Rest is SO important. And find a comfy chair! I lived in one chair for about a year, as mine didn't get beter for ages aftr the birth (probably due to crap advice from HV who told me to take it easy, yet still eat 3000 calories a day for BFing... four stone later and that's not good for your skeleton in any way!).

You also need to start following the advice re no lifting, keeping your legs together(!) and being careful getting dressed etc.

youknownothingofthecrunch · 08/01/2009 15:34

Mine's here with a vengance again (25 weeks). If I could only get one good night's sleep, even drowning in pillows only helps so much

Sympathise hugely. I bought a brace this time as my previous physio only gave me an enormous body sock type.

Someone on here was recommending osteopathy which I'm currently considering. At the moment it is just constant aching pain (which doesn't really do it justice in the pain stakes!), I have been more careful this time as last time it was popping out of the joint and leaving me collapsed in agony.

As Hawkmoth says, "Keep those legs together!"

ComeWhineWithMe · 08/01/2009 15:39

Thanks all .

Starting to wish I had kept them together in the first place .

Oh i feel for all of you suffering with SPD, i had it so badly with ds2 and my midwife was a real dragon.

I literally nearly crawled into her room for my last apt for her to look like this at me. I cried all through the apt with her tutting at me, in the end she called in the gp becuase i wouldn'r shut up and he gave me painkillers that it clearly said on my notes i couldn't have under a different brand name so i spent the next week throwing up, ds was born 3 weeks early.

I couldn't go upstairs in my house as i couldn't get up them and once dp had to come home from work as i had fallen from the sofa and i literally coudn't get up

Thats why i plan to never have anymore babies!

My physio apt arrived 2 weeks after ds was born.

Anyway back on point, i have no advice but i hope you guys all feel comfortable soon.

Sorry to gatecrash the thread- youknownothingofthecrunch I was just reading an old thread started by you about deferring from the PGCE. What did you decide to do in the end? Sorry for being very nosey- I just wondered what had happened!!

youknownothingofthecrunch · 08/01/2009 16:46

Hello cupofteaplease

Well, I went ahead with it and got through a couple of months of school placement - all went really well - but finally had a very long chat with my school mentor and decided to leave it for now. It was a very hard decision to make, but the right one. The Uni have told me I can go back anytime and the school have said all I need to do is tell them and they will ask for me - which is lovely.

It finally came down to the simple fact that I could not be tied to one area for 2 years.

So as my lovely mentor said, it is just a job and sometimes other things in life are too important not to take priority.

Hijack over

are you sure it is SPD and not sciatica?
I had it as well starting at 14 weeks and thought it was SPD. The I did lots of research and they say if you have pain below your knees, in your calfs, then most likely it is sciatica, not SPD. They are so similar, even doctors get confused.
So what I did with mine (as soon as I realised it was sciatica not SPD) i booked an oil massage for half an hour once a week . But not a relaxing one. The one that they do when they press the points; really paiunful but it helped. Now, the girl who does it went back home to India for a month, and it has been 10 days since the last session, and I will tell you: I started feeling the pain again!! I thought I can get through somehow - only few weeks left, but no, it started to hurt again. Guess need to lurch my DH into this massage thing somehow. He needs to give it to me himself, or else!! very difficult to find a good massue
I would try massage if I were you
