Baby movement at 39 weeks

How much baby movement should be happening by 39 weeks? Know there's much less room now but have noticed a real change in the last few days, so just mini kicks and hiccups now at night down in the pelvis. Is that normal? Worth checking out at the hospital? Thx

My baby is not moving around so much either but had my check up yesterday and all was fine. Am 39 weeks too. My midwife pointed out to me yesterday that it's smaller in there, plus she's probably saving her energy for the big push. Have you had/got a midwife appointment this week? If you are really worried ring the hospital. Hope all is okay. xx

I'm not an expert - sure someone will be along soon who knows more, but I have heard that babies quieten down a bit when they're getting ready for labour. I'm 40+1 now, and the midwife has said to call the hospital if movement stops, but I think as long as you can feel some movements you're probably okay. Having said that, if I haven't felt anything for a couple of hours, I am running off to get a cold drink and lie on my side to try and provoke a movement to check all is well. If the usual tricks to make baby move don't work within a hour of drinking whatever (ice-cold coke seems to work best for me, but depends on your views on caffeine etc) then that's when I start to worry. Both mine had been delivered before then so I never got that far, but I would get it checked out.

They will be checking lots of women at that stage so they won't mind checking.

If you're at all worried then please get checked out, I think any differences from the usual movements should be checked on. Give your midwife or labour ward a call.

Any change needs to get checked out.

Phone the midwfe/hospital.

Please don't listen to anyone who says there is less room and they are saving energy. You MUST get any change in movement (to less or to more) checked.

Thanks for the advice - baby kicked through the night (probably responding to the TENS!) and I'll see my midwife today - better to check, as you say. Thx
