Hi 30 weeks with dc no 2

Was neurotic with dd- nursery all matched, everything bought from cots to buggy etc and was ready from about 33 weeks.

This time around I have done NOTHING, Not a nappy bought no room ready NOTHING i tell you!

It dawned on me last night in bed that SHIT should we really not have started decorating the bed room and shall I start buying things.

Surely all it needs is a moses basket to sleep, some nappies and some clothes?

I am being really laid back or plain stupid

How organised where you?

I've only got things because I'm a Childminder so have everything already but I haven't really got anything specifically for the baby - I'm also (approaching) 30 weeks. I'm borrowing car seat and moses basket so no worries there, already have a double buggy.
I actually still have no idea where the baby will sleep as our room hasn't got much space left and I don't want him in with DS yet - starting to wonder if we should hang him from the ceiling
I think if you've had a DC already then you know there's no panic and you know that babies don't actually need very much at all.
I picked up some nappies (only because they were on special offer) in Boots a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if they are still doing the same deal but I got two boxes of Huggies Newborn kit for £5 each. They contain 27 nappies, a packet of wipes (72 pack) and a pair of socks

FruitynNutty · 07/01/2009 14:03

I also have all DS's clothes in the loft so baby hasn't even got his own clothes - apart from a few bits my mother bought him

JLo2 · 07/01/2009 14:07

That's the difference between your first and the rest!
I had absolutely nothing ready for DS2 and went into labour at 34 weeks. I had just gone in for routine monitoring and ended up in the delivery suite with only my handbag on me. If I remember rightly, all I had in it was my purse (with very little money in it)and a spare pair of pants and some wipes for my then 3 year old DS1. Fortunately labour stopped and they sent me home later that evening with strict instructions to pack a bag and keep it in the car!
This time round (now on DC4) we've decided not to decorate the room until they're old enough to express a preference! Up until then it will be blue (which is what it now) even if it's a girl. How bad a mother am I???!
We gave away nearly all our baby stuff after DS3 and have decided not to buy anything until we actually need it. At this rate our baby will be sleeping in a drawer for the first few weeks

Neeerly3 · 07/01/2009 14:08

i am 33 weeks and so far have.......nappies!

The baby's room still has a double bed in! However I have plans in place - borrowed crib for our room, need to fetch soon, hand me down buggy from my sis coming up in february, cot in loft from previous DC and clothes will miraculously appear once birth annoucement made!

I think second time round you realise how much unneccessary stuff you bought first time round, and how much you got given as gifts and thus how much never got worn or even unpacked! As long as you have a hosp bag sorted for YOU and some nappies for baby and at least one outfit to bring him/her home in I think thats all you need - everything else can be beg stole or borrowed afterwards.

i'm 30 wks with dc3 and have got nothing either...have realised now that all you need is cotton wool and nappies! (if you are on subsequent children) will dig out some baby grows soon and check that sling is okay for a third child!

actually have just remembered that i need to buy twice as many maternity pads as i think i need and some breast pads

lilymolly · 07/01/2009 14:57

God we are all crap mothers arent we!

To be honest we have a perfect nursey with cot/bed just have a 3 year old dd who sleeps in it!
We need to turf her out, redecorate another room for her (prob in dora or peppa pig ) and then Voila we have a nursery for dc no2!

We have a car seat, buggy and a massive suitcase full of "neutral" newborn clothes so I am sure we will be fine, its just I am getting more desperate to have the nursery all ready for it!

Saying that dd was a 42 week pregnancy so still 12 weeks to go thats 3 months isnt it??
Plenty time

Another 30 weeker here, with just one pack of nappies and some cotton wool for DC2

I guess a new mattress for the moses basket and some of DS's baby clothes washed and aired would be a good idea, but honestly think that is IT. Oh, and the car seat down from the loft!

stillstanding · 07/01/2009 15:15

For DS1 I think I started getting ready at about 38 weeks (and quickly too as my friend who was due on the same date as me gave birth to her lo then!) and all was well.

I really don't think you need to panic particularly if this is your second. Babies need so little in actual fact and it sounds like you have it pretty much sorted already!

Only thing I would start thinking about is preparing your 3yo for the arrival and that may mean sorting out rooms now. You may want to avoid turing her out of her room just as the new baby arrives to avoid issues!

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 15:18

am 30 weeks too and now christmas is out of the way am just starting to think about the new baby...

so far have bought a new pack of muslins, some bibs and a little fleecy suit in the sale at BabyGap

oh, and am thinking about sending dh into the loft for a recce

that's as far as I've got

actually a far more pressing issue is trying to figure out what to do with dd whilst dc2 is being born...

LUCIA22 · 07/01/2009 15:52

I dont think its worth stressing about. DD1 slept in our room for the first 6 months so no need to worry about a nursery for them. Her room has still not been decorated and she is now 20months, I am sure she is not at all bothered. We have got 3 neutral sleepsuits and vests which we had for DD1. Dp just went to Tescos and bought a load of pink ones the day after she was born. All the other stuff we had for her just needs to come out of storage, moses basket, car seat etc. Probably need to do that and clean it soon just incase. Will buy some newborn nappies soon but thats about all we will need. I think you feel the need to prepare more for the first as you are starting completely from scratch and dont really know what you will need but feel much more laid back with the second. I do need to buy some new pj's for me and maternity pads though. Getting your hospital bag packed is probably the most important thing as anything else can be sorted out by DP once LO arrives.

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 15:56

god yes must remember maternity pads
LOTS of them

MrsMattie · 07/01/2009 15:57

I had my DC2 in Nov. I didn't buy anyting until I was 36 weeks pregnant (and only minimal stuff, really - a few babygrows/vests, some stuff for my hospital bag, a new mattress for the moses basket...). Lucky I didn't leave it much later, because I had her at 38 weeks . She's 7 weeks old now and we really haven't bought much else for her, apart from a few more clothes. You realise second time around they don't actually need much more than food and warmth and cuddles!

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 15:59

is it recommended to get a new moses basket mattress then?

georgimama · 07/01/2009 15:59

I was like this with my first! I must be very odd. The nursery had been painted but otherwise looked in no way like a nursery. I only had a moses basket because I had been bought one as my leaving present from work. Borowed a car seat and didn't buy the pram until a few days after we got home (had already decided on it though).

As you said, you only need some nappies, vests, babygros and maternity/breast pads. Everything you need for first few weeks could be bought from a 24 hour Tesco by expectant father immediately after the birth.

Yep - another lax second timer here. I'm 35 weeks and only just started to get organised (ish).

Haven't packed hospital bag, no clothes ready, not even clear plan of what I am doing with DD when labour starts. DD1 was 10 days late - so I am almost daring this one to come early!
