Maternity pay - how generous is your company?

Hi all, I was shocked today when I told HR and my boss that I was pregnant and they told me that they don't top up the statutory maternity pay at all. That means I will get 90% for 6 weeks and then the £117 for the rest of the time I have off. I was so upset by this, and wanted to ask you guys how common it is? I work for a US technology company who have done very well in recent times, and expected more than this from them.
What does everyone else get in terms of maternity pay?? I'm very interested to hear if this is common or not!

I get 6 months full pay plus 3 months SMP. Also receive my car allowance for full 12 months which will be good for the last 6 mths. Work for a pharmaceutical company with lots of women employed so they offer good benefits. Cx

I will be entitled 26 weeks full pay, 13 weeks SMP, 13 weeks unpaid assuming ttc goes well

i have heard that any annual leave built up during maternity leave can be added to the maernity leave as paid leave... anyone else heard of this??

I also work for a US technology company and just got SMP whilst on maternity leave, BUT then a 25% pay uplift when I returned for 2 years duration. They have changed the policy since I had my DS though and it's more while you're off now, although not full pay.

Yes, I also asked about maternity pay this week and found out I will only get 90% for 6 weeks then £117 (which is also taxed) for the rest of the time I take off. My employer is a large global Pharmaceutical CRO. I am also angry considering I worked so hard for years, deserve a break while I have children however, my employer is not willing to pay. Anyone know a website where we can find out the maternity pay BEFORE a job interview. We can hardly ask for maternity pay information during the interview. I don't know anyone who has done this and secured the job in the UK.

The NHS pays 8 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay + SMP, 13 weeks SMP only and 13 weeks unpaid. Plus you accrue annual leave as usual which can be tagged on either end....pretty generous from what I can see.....

Sunsett, I don't know about finding out about benefits of a certain company on the web but if and when you go for a job interview, I would ask to see a copy of their full list of benefits (rather than just the usual few words about pension, bonus etc)and it ought to be in there. Best of luck. Cx

I'm at Royal Mail and asked my manager this the other day. I will get 18wks full pay and 21wks £117, Roll on June

Pretty average and no more than they have to pay tbh. Is it a small company?
I got 90% for first 6 weeks then SMP + the same amount (so double SMP)for the next 33 weeks, then unpaid for the final few weeks of AMP, But I wrote the policy

Also working for a US firm, it's a lot better than your US colleagues will be getting. That's not helpful, but might explain why they are going for the statutory. Beware of Ordinary Maternity and Additional Maternity and your rights.

insy- your so lucky I work as a civil engineer and my company tops up SMP to 100% of salary for the first 12 weeks- but only after 5years service and even then the top up is paid after you go back to work- where you have to stay for another 18months or pay it back.

does anyone know if once i start on the £117 will working tax credit make up our money as my husband is on a low wage and we will be at least £150 worse off a week once i start on this when leaving for maternity leave?
