How much did you weigh full term?

Also, how tall are you?

I'm 5ft 10 and with DS I weighed just under 11 full term and now I'm 7months and weigh 10st 3.

Is this healthy? Everyone is telling me it's fine but all my baby group told me to get it checked?

Surely your midwife is reassuring you? I don't think there are hard and fast rules as to how much weight you put on, I have put on nearly three stone (but was slightly underweight when I got pg) and my midwife is telling me that's healthy.

DECKmuppetWITHBOUGHSOFHOLLY · 05/01/2009 08:37

started at 9 stone and ended at 12 I'm 5 foot 2

This time I'm 8 stone 12 and will see...

katch · 05/01/2009 08:42

DS1: went from 9.5 stone to 13.5 stone due to severe nausea.
DD: went to 13 stone, same reason but slightly healthier diet.
DS2: went to 12 stone - still severe nausea but had given up sugar (and baby was a smalle, more manageable size).
You don't say where you started from, so it's impossible to see how much you've put on.
(I'm 5 foot 7).

BlueSapphire77 · 05/01/2009 08:45

6ft 4
Never been over 14 stone, went to my mums for xmas and stood on her digital scales (was 39 weeks pg at this time)

Asked why the scales were telling me the time until i realised what it was actually telling me is that i'm 15 st 6 lb

And everyone else laughed at me thinking it was the time ... hiding till lost all weight ...

notyummy · 05/01/2009 08:51

Zeb; a lot will depend on build etc. I am the same height as you (half a inch shorter!) and tbh, that does sound a but light to me.

The lightest weight BMI-wise you should be before pregnancy is at least 9 1/2 stone I think (may be a bit more). If you are a healthy weight before pregnancy, the recommendation is you put on roughly 2 stone, so that would put you around 11 and 1/2 AT LEAST (i.e if you started off at minimum healthy weight) at full term. If you were less than 9 1/2 stone beforehand, then you were underweight, and therefore the recommendation is that you gain more, i.e you still end up at least 11 1/2 stone.

It sounds like you may have been too light to be begin with...or perhaps being a bit too careful with your eating during pregnancy maybe? I realise these figures are all very rough, but even workly roughly you seem quite light.

I was 10 1/2 stone when I got prenant and ended up just over 12 1/2 at the end. I exercised all the way through and didn't eat like a pig, and people commented how 'neat' I looked. I lost it all (and a bit more...hungry baby!) by the the 5 month point afterwards.

Hope that helps.

I'm 5 foot 4. Started at 9 stone with DS, ended at 13.5 stone.

Started at 8.5 stone with DD, ended at 13 stone I think

olivo · 05/01/2009 08:58

started 8 1/2, ended up 11 1/2. i'm about 5'2".
this time, started 9st, but only 6 weeks......

Madigan · 05/01/2009 09:22

Zebraa,
that sounds light to me .........
I am same height as you, but obviously weighed a lot more to start with ....
starting weight for DD was about 11 stone, then weighed about 14.5 stone full term - it all cam off again within 6 months.
This time round, I have no idea ... have not wieghed myself but reckon it will be the same sort of figures.
what did you weigh before you got pregnant?

dinkystinky · 05/01/2009 09:36

5 ft 4 - started at 10 stone, put on 3.5 stone by the end (2 weeks over due)

This time - started at 10 stone - expect will put on the same amount of weight again.

cluckyagain · 05/01/2009 09:39

Z - I am 5 10 too and usually weigh between 10 and 10.4 (very stable) and am slim at that weight. I put on 2 stone with ds and 3 stone each time with dds - then went back to 10 stone ish. It sounds a bit light to me too but if you;'re naturally very slim I wouldn't worry too much.

Iloveautumn · 05/01/2009 10:14

Zebraa - everyone is different - assuming you are eating healthily and not denying yourself food when you're hungry then the actual weight you put on should not matter. Your body puts the baby first in the provision of nutrients so if you are lacking anything then it will make you feel hungry. Listen to your body!

Is the baby growing ok? Assuming it is then try not to worry about it - it's not easy to go against what your body wants you to do weight wise.

With my first ds I started off at a relatively low weight and was constantly hungry and put on about 3 1/5 stone. This time I weighed more to start with and have not been so hungry and will probably end up putting on about 2 stone (4 weeks to go!).

Both times I have worried about my weight but have come to the conclusion that you have to go with your body and it will all work out fine!!

Good luck!

Zebraa · 05/01/2009 11:03

I'm really slim naturally, I usually get comments like "you lost weight?" even though I have been the same weight throughout adult life. I'm just very skinny naturally.

My midwife said everything looks fine with baby and my bump looks big but people commented that I look like I should be tippling over.

Thanks for all your posts, really reassured me.

scorpio1 · 05/01/2009 11:10

I'm 5'10, and have never been more than 10 1/2 stone at 40 weeks, normally 9 stone (ish).

Have had 3dc - 6lb 11, 8lb 1, 8lb 9. all at 40 weeks.

Iloveautumn · 05/01/2009 11:12

Sounds really reassuring from your midwife that the baby is growing fine, so nothing to worry about.

People making comments are probably just jealous that you're not putting on loads of excess fat like most people do!!!

Divineintervention · 05/01/2009 11:13

5'2".... before first baby I was 5st 9lb, I went to a wapping 12 stones (that was two weeks before birth...... fourth baby, 2 months old and I am now 10 and a half stone.

Mirry71 · 05/01/2009 22:37

you all sound really skinny
am 5'5" have gone from 9'7 to 11'11 and only 33 weeks. How how how? Am terrified how much I'll weigh by 40 weeks. nd want to hide...

Boobz · 05/01/2009 22:46

Am 5'4 and started at 9.5 stone and am now 10.7 stone at 30 weeks. Defo put extra (unnecessary) weight on my thighs and bum but seem to look ok on it so far. Am wondering what number I will be at in 10 weeks time...

naturopath · 05/01/2009 23:59

I am 5'6 or 7 and put on 30 pounds in first pg - from 9 stone to just over 11 (as far as I recall). I think that's normal.

Pawslikepaddington · 06/01/2009 00:02

I am 5' 6" and went from 8st to 11st, went back to 8st 6 and am now 10st-they don't tell you you eat more the older and more stressful they get

lilimama · 06/01/2009 08:25

so how does anyone manage to put on Dr Gowri Motha's recommended maximum of 14lbs which is just over a stone? I'm over that already at only 10 weeks and have a sugar free and wheat free diet and no cheese. Hhhmf.

turtle23 · 06/01/2009 08:29

I'm 5'7 and started out 55 kg ended up 85 . (that's 66 pounds or 4 1/2 stone) DS is 9 months and am now 62 kg.

LoveActually · 06/01/2009 08:31

Goodness knows! All my weight has gone on my bump. If I'd put it on elsewhere I dread to think how much more I could have put on.
I think a stone is really unrealistic, the baby alone will weigh 7 to 8lbs, plus fluid must be about a stone in itself. Then you have to have fat reserves for breastfeeding, the extra blood reserves etc etc...

dinkystinky · 06/01/2009 08:45

Lilimama - I think they follow Dr Motha's diet to do that (which recommends restricting carbs etc and seems quite hardcore to me).

notyummy · 06/01/2009 09:36

I haven't heard of that diet. Is it for people that are overweight when they get pregnant because I thought the recommended gain was around 2 stone?

Nekabu · 06/01/2009 09:46

OMG I am only just over 13 weeks and have already put on half a stone! I know there was Christmas too but it sounds like I will be the size of a small whale if this continues ... I'd better start dieting (obviously sensibly) pronto!
