Bleeding in 3rd trimestre

Had two incidents of this now - kept in hospital for 24 hours monitoring both times, and they couldn't find a reason for it, so discharged me.

People say that bleeding is common, but looking through mumsnet I can't find many threads on it.

I'm only 33 weeks, and the second incident has really knocked my confidence and made me worry about the health of the baby. All my relatives are giving me advice about how to manage the next 7 weeks (most of it impractical with a 2yo DS) and some have helpfully said to me "well you don't want to lose the baby".

I'm punch drunk with all the advice, none from anyone with any experience of pregnancy, and am starting to feel rather depressed and alone. The baby is bumping away, and I half wish it could be born now so that it's safe.

I am assuming it is your blood and not the baby's that you are seeing. If so, the baby won't be at particular risk.

I am also assuming that they have ruled out placenta previa, which would put you into high risk.

Are you losing lots of bright red blood, or is it more spotting?

The hospital have ruled out placenta previa (having done a scan) and I assume they think it's my blood, not the babys.

The blood was bright red, a few drops (like a light period for an hour or so). Now I'm just getting very dark brown blood - which they tell me is "old blood" from the previous bleed.

I can't offer any advice except to say, poor you Ignore all the helpful advice from your family unless any of them are genuinely offering to lighten your load by cooking or playing with your son while you put your feet up.

I'm also 33/4 weeks with a 2 yr old and it is really tough (and I only have pelvic pain and varicose veins!) I also can't believe I may have to manage like this for another 7 weeks. I can't believe how different I am from my last pregnancy.

If you have a nice GP, perhaps make an apt to have a chat and see if they can reassure you?

Offering a virtual cup of tea and a biscuit, perhaps to enjoy while cbeebies is on!

Did they comment on the possibility of a cervical erosion?

Thanks Theochris. This pregnancy is certainly harder than my last one. I have already told DH he is giving me cosmetic surgery for my varicous veins on my ankles for my next birthday.

My GP didn't seem to understand the situation: she sort of scowled at me and asked why I was so upset.

Cervical erosion: the hospital didn't say anything about that by name: but from what I have read that comes from having sex(?) (which they did ask about and which I had to reply was so many months ago that it's embarrassing).
