Norks are huge again, face arms, upper chest, lower limbs all still skinny (was size 8) but my arse and tummy and norks are growing by the second. Of course, Xmas hasn't helped as I have had pavlova and trifle and most of Nigella's recipes cooked and stuffed into my tummy as fast as I can manage.

Two questions: Where does one buy nice maternity stuff these days? And, Can I diet and actually lose any of the excess weight or is that dangerous?

Always gained lots all through preg - 30 kilos plus. Just got on with it despite peoples comments.

Best skirts where Isabella Oilver & the rest h&m & blooming mavellous. Got a great top at pumpkin patch as well. Had some formes tops & long cardi as well.

Don't diet! You and your baby need the nutrients. You are not massive, you are keeping your baby warm.

I could start walking and running again and go back to lighter diet (was very small amount of food eating daily previously) and take me vitamin supplement??? It is really upsetting me. It's taken me 9 years to lose original baby fat from first pg. and last summer I got as close as I ever will to pre-pg weight.

Your body is in auto-pilot-nourish-the-baby mode and there's bugger all you can do about it, By all means eat healthily but don't try to diet because you need extra calories and your baby needs - well everything really.

Not maternity wear but if you need some new pajamas have a look in M&S - the autograph range has some stretchy, soft, slinky black ones which are incredibly soft and comfortable. I'm wearing some right now (feel a bit poorly today) and I'm not pregnant but I think that if you were they would still be very comfortable and yielding. They feel quite slinky and elegant too and weren't expensive - £15 for the top and £18 for the bottoms.

Hi Hobbgoblin,

I'm in similar situation to you, although this is first pregnancy. I've already put on quite a bit of weight (maybe half a stone) and am only 9 weeks. Used to be a size 6/8 and feeling my body has changed beyond recognition already.

I've put away all the old clothes and opted for lots of floaty dresses that don't dig in.

I wouldn't try to lose weight, personally. My sense is I should just try and eat sensibly for here on in (christmas was a bit full on) and hopefully I will just steadily gain sensible weight for the rest of the pregnancy. It's confusing though as get ravenous one minute, then another the idea of certain foods make me feel ill.

Good luck, I'm sure you look lovely. I'm trying to be positive about my new figure and just be sure the baby gets all the nutrients he/she needs, and am focusing on having a healthy one - a bit of excess weight seems a small thing in comparison to that...

I have been ENORMOUS with all 3 of my pregnabcies. Despite swearing each time that I will be really sensible and careful, and have a lovely little designer bump, I ALWAYS end up the size of a small country. Sigh.

It always comes off eventually though! So try not to worry about it too much

I was good to begin with for the first 3 months ( I am 34 weeks pg today) and put only 5 pounds inthree months. My DH used to say you look the same apart from growing bump, which was alright. but then during my 4th month and onwards, I started putting HUUUUGE amount of weight. And guess whatby 7th motnh I gained 18 kgs!!!! At that point I still cared, which did make me depressed for couple of days. But now..... I do not care anymore. One month left and I cannot wait for baby to come out!!!! I do not care about my weight now. I will deal with it when the baby is out and then I can do somehting about it. No point sitting around and mopping about it, I can't change a thing: eating the same way, but seems likes kgs are just piling on!!!!!!!!!
Looking like a pingwin now: round with legs stuck on.... My DH is very suportive saying I look cute and I am just pregannat, bless him.
sorry, just had to let it out!

I have a short body so am always ENORMOUS with my pregnancies - look like I have a space hopper stuck to my front from around 5 months onwards. Last time round I had buses randomly stopping for me to see if I needed to get a lift anywhere! I put on around 3 stone last time (was a 10-12 before) and suspect I will again this time (now 32 weeks pregnant with no 2) - I have just accepted this is the way it is. Am healthy, do exercise, eat healthily and is just the way pregnancy works wiht my short body...

However if you are desperate to keep an eye on weight gain during pregnancy, I have seen on other threads that slimming world is apparently safe to follow in pregnancy.

Oh - nice maternity wear: Topshop, H&M (v impressed), Seraphine (pricy but sale on), Isabelle Oliver, Blooming Marvellous has some really nice stuff now too (and you get MN discount with last 2) and EBAY is always a good place to look at for IO stuff (keeps resale value really well).

Just got my BFP this week and seriously, the only thing on my mind is HOW WILL I NOT GAIN 3.5 STONE AGAIN THIS TIME? I was enormous with DD, gained so much weight that my back gave out and I was barely mobile. It all came off within 7 months, but I cannot, cannot, cannot put my body through that again. And then I couldn't find maternity clothes that fit me so I looked sloppy and horrible for months. So there's resolution no. 2 find some decent clothes this time and make a bloody effort. Am devouring these tips on where to find good stuff thank you!
