pram advice needed - lots of stairs to deal with at home

Hello girls!
Not sure this is the right section, but I'd like to ask for help with pram choosing.

I was wondering if experienced mums could help. I live in an apartment on the 2nd floor and would need to deal with about 40 steps on fairly narow/steep stairs to get there. Well I can leave the wheels at the ground floor (still need to go up about 12 steps to get to ground floor) and then carry the baby or the carrycot the rest of the way.

I'm thinking of getting a sling, but being a first timer who is scared to hold a baby at this stage I'm thinking I would also like to have some sort of pram for a newborn that I could possibly carry up at least to the ground floor.

So far I looked at Maclaren Techno, but would need to take the baby out of it and carry both the baby and the stroller up in 2 separate hands. Or the bugaboo camelion where I would take the carrycot off the frame and carry the baby up the first 12 steps and then come back and get the frame and carry it up and leave it on the ground floor and then just carry the carrycot up the rest of the way.

I'm sure there are some of you who are in a similar situation and I would live to know your opinion on the pram options. My DH doesn't like the idea of bugaboo as he sees it as an overpriced fashion accessory ( I would be looking to get a second hand one possibly), however most other prams I looked at are even heavier.
Would be grateful for advice.
Thanks in advance.

Get a techno and a sling - much safer than trying to carry a carrycot up a steep staircase. Once your baby is here you won't worry about holding him or her - it will become second nature.

Congratulations on your pregnancy btw

A sling is definitely the easiest option with stairs, but appreciate that you want a buggy too. A buggy with a detachable carrycot sounds like a good option for you if you want to be able to carry sleeping baby up to the flat - you may want to look at buggaboo, quinny and also other varieties (John Lewis nursery department is a good place to have a browse at what's on offer) though those do tend to be quite bulky chassis wise and fairly heavy - not great for public transport. You may want to check with neighbours if you can leave the chassis of the buggy down in the hallway until the evening (lugging it up and down the stairs isnt much fun). Umbrella folds, like the maclaren techno, are generally ok to leave in hallways as dont take up as much room as buggaboo or quinny chassis.

Icandy cherry? We have one which I've found really good, although not so great if you're very tall as the handle height isn't adjustable. Carrycot is detachable and the chassis is extremely light compared to similar buggies. I've also managed to bump it up and down stairs when DS was smaller, I know they say you shouldn't, but needs must! Advantage of a reversible seat unit too.

go to local pram superstore and ask for demonstrations on folding dismanteling buggies, test out the weights and try to do it yourself onehanded( remember when baby gets a wee bit older and your more confident you may wish to get baby and buggy upstairs fast.also you may wish to get some kind of bicycle chain/lock so your buggy doesnt get nicked when your taking baby up (sorry, but it does happen sometimes , and not just in "bad areas" but nicer ones too).happy shopping!

The best prams to 'bump' up/down stairs are the ones with air filled tyres. I have a Micralite and Mountain Buggy, that you can get carrycots for. I did use a Graco travel system with the infant carrier car seat, but stopped using it when I fell down the last few steps. One of my neighbours used a Mamas & Papas pram with a big chassis but took ages to get up/down stairs.

If I could go back in time with my pram choice, I would have got the Micralite fastfold as a travel system (carrycot & carseat) I think. The buggy stands up when foled, which is great. The only prob is that you can't have it in buggy mode and use the carseat/ carrycot.

I do really like my Mountain Buggy though and might get a new one if I have another child. I have had no problems leaving prams at the bottom of the stairs and I leave them outside my flat too.

Found a past thread about lady with stairs.
I live in an apartment and will either be leaving wheels/or pram if baby awake at bottom til husband back or leave in car.
Sling is good idea but i dont like Mclarens for newborns.
Ive gone for First wheels city elite with car seat and carrycot. I choose the pram i wanted and ignored the stairs!
