I'm not even quite 6 weeks pg but am suffering from awful tiredness - i mean to the extent where i am worried it might be dangerous. today i nearly fell asleep in a cafe with dd, and again while out in town and i am worried about driving. I'm getting more sleep at night than i was; dd has recently slept through for a few nights. i've been taking sanatogen pronatal to ensure that i'm getting enough vitamins/ folic acid etc.
might it be low iron or something?

have you had your iron levels checked? very commonin pregnancy.

there is a wonderful supplement called floradix which is vegetable derived and therefore no risk of constipation.

LaTrucha · 31/12/2008 13:22

Crippling tiredness at 6 weeks was my first sign I was pregnant. It does get better.

olivo · 31/12/2008 13:23

i havent had my iron checked recently; havent been to the drs to tell them i'm pg yet. can i get floradix in the supermarket? it might be iron as i am a veggie, but i have been trying to be careful since finding out i was pg.

really? i never had this with dd! this time i seem to have the nausea plus the dizziness and tiredness.
I'll try and look on it as reassuring

It's really normal to be utterly tired during early pregnancy.

I don't think there's anything you can really take for it. Unless you were anaemic before getting pregnant, this shouldn't be an issue yet (your blood volume will not have increased by much yet).

I would recommend that you don't try to fight it too much. Plan to have a nap, and get into a routine of eating/resting/exercising.

Don't do what I did in my last couple of pregnancies which was to be a zombie for the first half of the pregnancy. It is really much better if you can carve up the your time well, and get quality sleep.

olivo · 31/12/2008 13:31

the shudder has scared me
but i suppose it makes sense to be more tired when running round after another little person, rather than being able to chill.

no chance of napping as i am home with my gorgeous but energetic 2 yo who has chosen this week to drop her nap!!
I am back to work next week though so will be more in a routine then.
I just don't remmebr this from last time - as i say, i guess i was just lucky!

It can be completely debilitating. Try and rest wherever you can, and avoid being out when you have your worst patches. After lunch was my worst time, I had to sleep then.

yes - don't worry - my second was mich more tiring - i think because you know you can't rest having to run around after another little one.

a secure room, a telly and a light doze mid-afternoon worked best for me!

dinkystinky · 31/12/2008 15:18

I ound eating little and often, early bedtimes (straight after DS's) and Cbeebies was what got me through the knackered phase - it will pass.

I've been really tired in this, my first pregnancy - I imagine it must be harder if you have children already! I too am veggie but take the veggie Pregnacare and I also take veggie Omega tablets from Superdrug, and try to eat broccoli, spinach etc when I can. I do feel slightly better now (18 weeks) but about 2 weeks ago I was worried about how I kept falling asleep on buses and almost at my desk! Got my blood results back and everything's fine.

I think it was particularly bad as I was getting up to go to the toilet about 3 times a night. I've limited what I drink in the evenings now and tend to only get up once now.

It might be worth chatting to your midwife about it if you're worried. Take care. xx
