Should I call the hospital, or am I just being paranoid??

Hello,
I am 38+3, and booked for an elective c-section this monday, as my baby is breech, and I have polyhydramnios, (excessive fluid).
However, for the last couple of days I have been feeling extremely short of breath and I keep having spells where my heart starts absolutely racing. This passes after a while, it usually helps if I sit up very straight for a bit.
This afternoon I really did not feel right at all and put myself to bed for a few hours. I felt better when I woke up, but the breathlessness is still coming and going. My resting heart rate also seems to be high-ish at 95-110 BPM. I can feel the baby moving as normal, and this is my first so I'm really not sure if this is just normal, particularly taking the excessive fluid into account.
My poor DH is v.worried and all for going to the hospital, but as my waters are still intact and I haven't had a show or any contractions, I suspect they will just send us home.
If anyone has any advice at all I'd be very grateful.
Thanks

I'd give them a ring esp if you are slightly worried as this could stress the baby out. Just call them and explain it - it could be nothing and everything is sorted or it could be something and at which point your in the best hands possible

I'm sure someone will be here soon to explain what it is your experiencing.

I would def ring the hospital at least. Let them know how you feel and see what they suggest.

You are probably fine but sooo not worth taking a risk.

lal07 · 26/12/2008 22:25

why don't you phone them and talk to midwife - they'll be able to reassure you properly if you don't need to go in - but better to be safe. best of luck.

littleducks · 26/12/2008 22:25

I would phone and have a quick chat with a midwife

WalkingInAWonderStuffingLand · 26/12/2008 22:25

I would give your midwife a call or go to hospital, even if they send you home better to be safe than sorry.

no advice but bumping for you.

May be a good idea to call your maternity ward- they will know whether you should come in or not.

Breathlessness in late pregnancy can often be due to anaemia.

whomovedmychocolate · 26/12/2008 22:29

Go to the hospital. You could have an infection which will need treating before you can have the caesarian. It's unlikely to change the outcome but the hospital will probably want to admit you and keep you in till Monday.

Good luck. I know it's probably what you don't want to hear but things can progress very quickly so better checked and then kicked out than have a crash section at 3am with a tired registrar!

My nan has heart problems and recently had problems with shortness of breath because she had fluid on her lungs, so i guess your excess fluid is causing this, but no idea how dangerous or not it is.

EachPeachPearMum · 26/12/2008 22:34

How long are the tachycardias lasting?
I would call trauma tbh.

ally2104 · 26/12/2008 22:39

Thank you for all your words of advice, and so quick too! Breathlessness not so bad now, but have achey pains and discharge has just got heavier, (sorry TMI!!), so off to call hospital now. Thanks again.

Thanks again to all who replied- quick update, turned out bubs had managed to jam itself under my ribs, (was probably trying to turn itself again; it's been doing it since 30 weeks!), and that was what was causing the breathlessness and tummy ache. Hospital suggested a walk, and I felt baby turn slighly and dislodge- oh the relief! Still breech though, can feel head just above my belly button, so c-section still on for monday.
Thanks again to all who replied so fast, you guys are great.
