Fever - Please say baby will be OK

I'm 17 weeks pregnant and horribly sick since Friday night - coughing, sneezing, sore throat, absolutely no voice, and sinusitis. And now fever.

DH took DD out yesterday while I slumped in front of TV, so noone was there to notice that I ran a fever and passed out for a few hours. With a thick sweater and and wool cover.

When DH came in, he gave me a paracetamol and made me take a cold shower which brought temperature down, but it was up again in four hours. Again, paracetamol, shower, lots of violent trembling, and fever came down again.

I'm worried that the fever and especially the simmering for a couple of hours in high temp and under covers may have damaged the baby.

Can anyone put my mind at ease?

i am absolutely certain that it will all be ok.

however i am some old joe on the internet.

i thin you should call your midwifery team or nhs direct and get some reassurance from them.

i am sure it's fine.

I think it's only in the first 12 weeks that it can be a cause for concern and even them it's very rare for there to be complications due to it. I agree with MMj though ring a midwife to reassure you.

I'm in France. I called the maternity service of my hospital last night and got told

"Don't come here and infect mums & children, go to E&A or call SOS Medecin"

"What is their number?"

"I don't know. Look it up"

Great I couldn't open my eyes at this point. (Don't get me started on what passes for 'care' in France)

ok have just googled.

first trimester there might be a problem if the fever is very high and sustained.

after the first trimester no problem.

I've just realised this is you Cote! Congratulations I didn't know you were pregnant. I hope you feel better soon and don't worry about the baby I had high temperatures at some point throughout all 3 of my pregnancies and my babies were fine.

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 22/12/2008 14:43

cote , IMO which is non medical, you and baby will be just fine

make sure you stay rested, hydrated and really look after yourself.

you are past the first trimester, so all should be well...make sure you keep going with the paracetomal too, every 4 hours to make sure that you are keeping on top of it.

hope you are feeling much better soon

Thank you for the reassurances

Fever wasn't that high I think - 38.6 C at its highest. But my resting (lying down for hours) heart rate was 138 bpm last night , which worried me. Does anyone know why that would be?

Cote, I've been really poorly with flu and worrying about the baby (am nearly 30 weeks)

but I spoke to mw and she said to to worry after first trimtester (same as everyone here)

the rapid breathing/hr often comes with a fever, doesn't it? hope you improve soon - I am feeling so congested in my lungs, really hpe it's not a chest infection

dinny · 22/12/2008 15:00

sorry, she said NOT to worry after first trimester - doh

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 22/12/2008 15:00

your pulse will be racing if you are unwell, and being anxious won;t help either, do you have sympathetic doctor who can reassure you?
