Because I'm not coping too well!

Telly and calling in favours. Leave house a tip. Sorry that's my only words of wisdom. It's hard.

scarlotti · 22/12/2008 13:23

My midwife has told me to make sure I eat as it's low blood sugar that contributes. If you feel sick first thing then eat something before you get out of bed, then keep eating small amounts during the day. Once you feel sick it's too late.
Also ginger is supposed to help - giner biscuits (yum!) or tea or whatever.
Know how you feel so I do sympathise - I try and see it as positive affirmation of the pregnancy too as have had a m/c before so that's another coping option..!

needmorecoffee · 22/12/2008 13:23

you have your head down the toilet and toddler either coments helpfully, falls over or stands there banging the back of your head with the toilet seay.
Or, lay on the sofa and let them watch CBeebies till their eyes bleed.

2Happy · 22/12/2008 13:25

TV. A bit more TV. Some TV. And if they're bored, there's always the TV...

Sorry you're having a hard time. Have you friends/family nearby?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 22/12/2008 13:25

Head down toilet with toddler patting your back and saying 'err iss a dissgusssin mummy'

I would ignore housework, and certainly try ginger biscuits, but most of all, think, it will soon pass!

Picante · 22/12/2008 13:29

Thanks. Am feeling guilty as to the amount of TV he's watching and the complete lack of housework.

At least I'm not working over Christmas so I can rest a bit.

And I am eating... lots!

I lay on the sofa and let my 3 yr old watch CBeebies for shameful chunks of the day. Also called DH at work and cried until he came home early. And relied heavily on my mum to do nursery drop offs / pick ups and help with housework. It was hellish, to be honest.

minouminou · 22/12/2008 23:59

I got anti-emetics, and let DS watch more TV than was good for him
I also plonked him in the bath (he's 2 and is v confident in water) for anything up to an hour while i lay on the cold bathroom floor, drinking soda water
as for cooking - as the worst sickness was in aug/sept/early oct, DS had more cold than hot food, including stuff from local greek deli (expensive, but a life-saver), yoghurts, smoothies, ham, cheese, veg sticks etc etc
DP was great and helped when he could - weekends, odd days off, and chums pitched in, although i was v reluctant to ask, as i didn't know how long the sickness would go on for
walking was actually good for me (although i've chucked up in public loads of times now!), and the colder it gets, the better!
know what you're going through, and i really sympathise

ChasingSquirrels · 23/12/2008 00:04

umm TV, and ds1 ate wheatbix for tea quite alot at that time.

skrimbo · 23/12/2008 00:05

Local cafe fed my son for 3 months at least, he lived on cheese snadwiches. I could even make him a sandwich.

Coldtits · 23/12/2008 00:05

Eat whatever you want. Healthy eating can go to hell. I lived on plain crisps.

Also

Pingu
Sick bowl
lemon barley squash

VisionsOfSugarPlums · 23/12/2008 01:03

Barney videos
Bear in the Big Blue House Videos
Dora the Explorer videos
Toy story
My ds1 and ds2 knew I was pregnant with ds4 at 6 weeks because they had seen it all already with ds3! Just keep telling yourself "This too shall pass!" I really do sympathise, it is horrible!

Its hard I still have morning sickness at 28 weeks though. My 2 year old DD has got to love jigsaws - good for lying down groaning at the same time. I hate the TV but I've had to resort to it now she won't nap in the afternoon I try and doze while she watches snow white but often I get hit and shouted "wakey wakey". Ready meals for both of you or very simple meals.

Food never helped with my sickness this time round. If you can afford it get a cleaner - I got one every two weeks no way can I clean. DD starting pre-school in January as I have little family help and she can get used to it before the baby comes.

I found doing one actvity with her in the morning I felt I had done my bit and felt less guilty about TV.

hattyyellow · 23/12/2008 06:37

ceebeebies, videos, dvds. DD's loved watching dvds on my laptop and would bizarrely watch them for ages longer than on the tv...

relax on eating - just try and eat what you can and don't beat yourself up if the kids aren't having 5 fruit and veg a day.

i used to do bathtime in front of the tv when i felt really rotten. baby bath on a changing mat at least meant i didn't have to battle the kids upstairs and lift them in and out of the bath.

dinkystinkyclaus · 23/12/2008 09:39

Cbeebies, sticker books for little one, DVDs...

eat when you can

rest when you can (especially if your toddler has lunchtime naps still)

take it really easy

get friends/family round to take little one out to park to run off excess energy

Thanks all. Some great ideas. I'll have to see how I cope when I have to work again. I might have to get something from gp.

Little bits of food to ward off the nausea, loads of telly, lemon barley squash and get your husband to do everything. I'm wk 14 and have just come out the other side.

Picante · 27/12/2008 12:55

Ok this is getting really really bad. DS is noticing I'm just laying on the sofa and he's acting wierd - clingy and awkward, doesn't want dh to do anything with him.

How can I explain that I'm not feeling good without worrying him? He's 2.8.

Get the book "there is a house inside my tummy" - explains about baby and how it can make mummy sick and tired. Helped my DD. Got her a medical kit and nurses outfit for xmas so she can "treat" me when I am sick! Go to the GP for some anti sickness drugs if its that bad - at one stage I felt so sick I couldn't drink water let alone eat and thats when I knew I had to go to the GP.

Picante · 27/12/2008 13:50

Thanks - have found the book on Amazon!

I've got a gp's appointment next Friday and will get medication hopefully. Got an early scan on Wed which I want to make sure is ok before I take anything.

Thanks.
