Will GP give me something for morning sickness?

I managed to get through being pg with DS, lying on the sofa and eating.

This time I feel much much worse, becoming much worse each day. Sickness started at 3 weeks. Am now 6 weeks and know if this pg is ok I have a long way to go before my sickness even peaks.

I'm not working over Christmas but I'm not sure how I'll be able to cope in January.

I know in France they don't hesitate to give something for it.

Is it worth asking? Does anyone know what it is they give you and what the risks are?

Thanks.

I was at the dr with dd yesterday (am only 4 wks pg) and mentioned how rough i felt - he offered me something for the sickness straight away. I declined....for now, but obviously there is something available!

Thanks. I really didn't want to take anything first time round but I think I might have to this time!

It depends on your gp - I wassigned off work for 18 weeks with hyperemesis, and my gp point blank refused to give me anything for it.
The docs at the hospital were amazed!

Hello

I had to take some pills as I was losing approx a pound a day!

There were three types to choose from, (I forget their names), but they start you on the oldest pill which has been around the longest, as none of these pills have been 'tested' on pregnant women....

Good luck!!
My thoughts are with you as it is truly hellish feeling sick and knowing you have weeks of this hangover to go....

Ask for buccastem - i'm fairly certain it's the one of the three mentioned by hambo above there
it can make you feel a bit grotty and drowsy, but it works instantly (dissolves under top lip over 2-2.5 hours) and will give you 2 or 3 windows each day to get stuff done, or you can take it when nausea's at its worst

If it gets really bad, dont take no for an answer. I was sick from week 5 - week 16, had severe hyperemesis, ended up in hospital with dehydration and lost 2 stone. I was lighter at 40 weeks then i was pre-pregnancy! It took me to week 12 to convince the docs to put me on stemetil, thats only after i was signed off work as i wasnt even fit to be driving anywhere. I was in a hurrendous state. DD is now 3 weeks old and IF i ever decide to have another child, should the sickness re-appear, i certainly would get myself on some medication earlier because putting myself through that was one of the hardest things i've ever done (bar giving birth!)

Friend of mine definitely got prescribed something - she couldn't keep anything down, not even water without the tablets... think she gradually got the dose down throughout the pregnancy to something like quarter of a tablet, but she still threw up first thing in the morning before the tablet every single day of her pregnancy until she gave birth!

Hi - I'm 15 weeks and the nausea and vomiting started around 6 weeks. I was prescribed 50mg of Cyclizine 3 times a day by GP and took them religiously because the nausea and vomiting continued relentlessly and I thought, "Bloody hell - if it's this bad with the medication, how bad would it be if I wasn't taking the Cyclizine?!". Was feeling really spaced out though and permanently exhausted and a week or so ago, decided to try a day without them. The sickness was no better or worse but I felt SO much more awake and alert and I managed to do more housework that day than I had the previous month! I subsequently decided to ditch the pills and I feel more in control and would recommend rest and trying to 'eat through it' as better alternatives. Having something in bed before you get up definately makes a difference. Hope this helps and you feel better soon.
