Teeny, tiny embryo only 2.1mm in Week 6

Hi
I had an early scan yesterday (mid Week 6) as part of my IVF 'package' and embryo is extremely small at only 2.1mm. Some reassuring news (?) is that we could vividly see a heart beating. In any case, I am quite concerned as an embryo in its sixth week should be 4mm+. Will do another scan next week.

Dating is not in question as fertilisation / conception is clear with IVF.

Has anybody had any similar experiences?

Would love to hear from you!

Newsflash from my original posting (the start of this thread) - 4 days since my last scan and the 2.1mm embryo is now 4.5mm (6+4) , still with a heartbeat. The consultant told me today that trying to 'date' embryos with scans before you are 8 weeks is basically pointless. They do not like to correlate 'millimetres' to conception dates, as ultrasounds have a +/- error rate of 2mm - and that was the size of my entire embryo last week.

My big issue now is a 6cm cyst on my right ovary which has popped up and is proving to be quite painful. No potential harm to the embryo but i am wondering if/when it is going to burst. . .

Thanks for all your posts and support!

Glad you got good news Kanuck. Not so good about the cyst though.

That's excellent news Kanuck. I was going to mention on my early scan the only thing they bothered to measure was my ovarian cyst but decided this may be irrelevant information - it wasn't as big as yours though. It did go down a bit by 12 week scan and disappear completely by 20, however so fingers crossed yours will do the same. Main thing is that everything currently looks fine with the baby
