Without inducing labor naturally or medically and with no medical problems why do people go into labor early?

Who knows! You could make an absolute fortune if you knew.
I went swimming alot with ds and went into labour at 38+2, With dd I was 39+2 and had cleaned kitchen floor and oven that day!

I think the length of your cycle can make a difference. And I guess as no one really knows what triggers labour, no one can answer your question comprehensivly!

I have long cycles & both babies have been early (37 & 38 weeks).

Remember that a due date is only an estimation by a midwife or doctor. So, a baby that arrives earlier than 40wks may not be early at all, but bang on time, if the estimated due date was inaccurate.

All scans etc use what I guess must be average measurements to judge the dates, yet the babies that are born are all different sizes. Much more helpful to think of your due month than due day, as anything between 37 and 42 weeks is considered normal.... if only we knew when it is going to happen, it would make planning so much easier. (getting a bit fed up of people calling me asking if anything happening.... father in law on the phone at 8.15 this morning just to check!!!!!!)

Me too sjcmum (well, your FIL didn't actually call me, that would have been weird) but I was due a week ago...

SparklyGothKat · 20/12/2008 14:45

I have given birth at 35+5, 31+1, 33+2 and 33+6. No-one knows why I can't carry to term, would love to know myself
