I had the test, there was also glucose in my wee. The test came back negetive.

I had the one trace of glucose @ 15 weeks and had the GTT the next week. They called me the next day and unfortunately I was classed as having GD. I'm now 27 weeks and baby is fine. I'm on pills and have to do blood tests. Positive is I haven't put on much weight but the obvious negative is not being able to gorge on cakes etc! Hiding right now from husband who is chomping on a bowl of Ben and Jerry's downstairs!!

I had to do it as I was over the BMI limit - but twas fine. Apart from having to sit in a waiting room for 2 hours with old, sick people who wanted to tell me (in great detail) about their respective illnesses. I HATE hospitals so whilst I might sound a bit unkind, this was really my worst nightmare.

I have GD and was diagnosed at around 16 weeks. I'm having to have insulin injections three times a day and am following a low GI diet.

On the plus side I think I'll end this pregnancy lighter than at conception but on the negative side it is a real pain injecting and having to test my blood sugar. It'll be worth it though.

Bad news is that in some women (a small percentage) the diabetes remains after pregnancy but in most it goes away. I've been told there is a 50/50 chance of me getting it in later life due to having it in pregnancy, so I'll probably continue with the diet afterwards.

Exercise definitely helps keep blood sugar lower, together with a low GI diet.

The test is done routinely I think around 20 odd weeks. If left untreated it can lead to a bigger baby. I'm being seen by 2 consultants, a specialist nurse and a specialist midwife, so in good hands!

I had the GTT test as im overweight. Mine came back normal.....

There is no evidence that using GTT 'routinely' for overweight women improves outcomes for babies btw - at least there wasn't two years ago which is the last time I had this arguement with my consultant. It should be approached in the same way as any other test in pregnancy and you have the right to refuse it.

Wellbalanced - what had you eaten just before you did the sample?
