if you try and buy some they won't sell it to you if you are pg.Which would put me off tbh.
I know someone who took it and it did bring onlabour but very quickly.

no no no

at best will give you the runs, and tummy cramps. At worst it can encourage fetal distress.

Don't. It gives you the runs, very violently. It does not bring on labour unless you were about to go into labour anyway.

Just don't.

instead, have raspberry leaf tea/capsules, sex (sperm and orgasm are great starters!), tweak your nipples, pineapple...

I ate a whole fresh pineapple - got me started

It will just give you a hideous case of the shits!

Spend hours tonight sitting on a birthing ball drinking raspberry leaf tea - that should sort you out - rotate that pelvis get that babies head low down and out it will pop.

sorry, but absolutely not

your best chance for a VBAC is a spontaneous start to labour and at 40 + 2 you are barely overdue.

if you want to try anything,. sex and nipple stim and maybe a sweep at 41 + weeks.

you are unliekly to be induced if you have had a section before

be patient, and let your body do its thing and more chance of a VBAC

castor oil will give you bad stomach cramps and diaorrhea, and you will end up on the loo a lot and if you do go into labour you will be knackered, dehyrdated and feeling awful

Heya Bunnysgril - im 40 weeks +2 also today and was thinking the same as you - but by the responses it doesnt seem like a good idea - although to be honest cleaning out your system before hand seems quite appealing!

My hairdressers says she knows two people - and it worked for them gr8 - where the hell do you buy caster oil from?? Whats it used for generally?

bunnysgirl--My advice to you would be to just relax.
Baby's aren't born on their due date they are born on their birthday. No matter what you do, you won't have this baby until it is ready to come.

Well the title drew me in like a moth to a light.

Step away from the Castor oil!!!

State that you wish Expectant Management in the event that you go past 42 weeks, go home and stay warm, well hydrated, pee regular, eat some nice foods regular and often, gentle exercise like walking or swimming, hilarious comedy movies to open up all your orifices, massages from DH, early nights, maybe a small glass of wine with the funny movies.....

and WAIT.

I do appreciate the panic for a VBAC, I declined induction at 42 wks as there was no medical need and gace birth at 42+1. I did accept sweeps from 41wks, although only the last one at 42 was actually done. Also their scan date was wrong (quelle surpise!) and so my VBAC was actually at 40+6 by my dates!

It was really hard and I nearly did accept induction but managed to step back from the abyss. There really needs to be more of a reason than just dates and the good thing is you are only 40+2. Babies arrive sometime between 37 and 42 weeks on average so you've got loads of time yet.

As Lulu suggests if you feel you have to try then stick to the methods that actually utilise your hormones. IMHO these are more likely to help than other methods, but any attempt to induce a baby who is not ready MIGHT result in stop/start labour that leaves you exhausted, weary and worn out for when labour REALLY does start.

Also if Castor oil (or curry etc) gives you the squits then I do worry that it might cause baby to open its bowels too. That's not good for labour...........

If you get to 42 wks then you should ask your HCP to discuss with you your options in great detail so that you can make an informed decision

a continue to wait with expectant management
b very gentle induction if your Bishops Score is favourable, perhpas only a Foley Catheter might be needed...
c elCS on your terms

Best of luck!

have used it 3 times (when 2 weeks overdue each time). with my first pregnancy i was induced in the hospital which i hated and was determined to avoid it again. in 2md and 3rd labours i went into labour within about 6 hours of taking it and labour was quick and normal. the 4th labour i tried it again and labour started quickly but i bled lots, which was really distressing. gave birth pretty soon afterwards to healthy boy, but think maybe the castor oil made it too violent and quick. might have had nothing to do with the castor oil, but i would be cautious. i'd say it definitely works, but it's effects are fast and furious.

Ds1 had to be worked on a fair bit because he was blue having swallowed meconium. I wouldn't even look at a bottle of castor oil knowing its heightening that risk.

Castor oil can induce labour but the way it does this is pretty violent. It's an irritant to the digestive tract and can cause really nasty diarrhoea. The irritated bowel in your abdomen can 'jump start' your uterus to start contracting.

However, if you do get into labour you'll feel exhausted, ill, sore and probably extreemly dehydrated - not good starters for a positive birth experience!!!

I have delivered a few women who have taken castr oil - one in particular spend her labour kneeling over the toilet vomiting and passing fecal fluid from her bottom at the same time - she had no control over it...

The poor woman was so unwell. I went 13 days overdue on my first baby and that vision definately put me off taking it myself - even though I was desperate to go into labour!!!!

I agree with GaribaldiGirl it does work very fast the worst part is the runs. I did it with dd2 was on toilet for an hour then bang i was in labour only prob was ambulance didnt get to me on time to take me to hospital & they had to deliver her on the bathroom floor cos when they got to me her head had crowned & they couldnt move me.
