possibly pregnancy gingivitis? My gums bled a lot when I was pg, and it's a known pregnancy thing. That's why you get free dental care when you're pg I think.

gestational gingivitis

Please contact your dentist, guess your date if necessary. If they refuse to provide free treatment, contact your mw and get the Mat B form or a letter to confirm your pregnancy and make an appt.

I had dental "issues" during my prg and would not recommend leaving it!

On a final note, I have never provided any documentation from my mw / gp / hospital to my dentist to obtain the free treatment.

Good luck and hope you get the appt soon.

You will need to go to a NHS dentist if you want free dental care while pregnant and until the bubba is 1 year old,as a private practice will not provide free dental care.

In the meantime try Corsodyl mouthwash twice a day-perfectly fine to use when pregnant and will help with the inflammed sore gums.

pregnancy plays funny beggars with your body, including gums. I had gingivitis, which the dentist prescribed mouthwash for after I'd had dd (not because I couldn't use it before, but because I didn't see him til afterwards).
My gums were awful, he tried cleaning my teeth and my gums bled that much he had to stuff gauze under my gums to stem the bleeding! (sorry if you're feeling a bit faint now!)
It cleared up quickly though.

It is quite normal. My gums are bleeding a lot (25 wks) and when I was in the first tri I thought I felt like my teeth were wobbly. Baby steals all your calcium early on to make bones etc.. Corsodyl is good stuff but can stain your teeth so Listerine might be better.

I had the same, and was using mouthwash every hour, it helped; plus flossing, because when the food gets stuck, it may lead to infection making everything even more loose. This softening of your gums is due to some kind of hormone that relaxes everything in your body. This too shall pass I had it in the first /second trimester so bad, I could not lseep at night, was taking paracetomol. But then using mouthwash ever hour helped. Even when I get up at night time to go the loo, i pop into the bathroom and use mouthwash just to stay on top of it. it is dreadfullly painful, I know , poor you...

Floss floss floss so remnants of food are not lodged between teeth or in the 'pockets' of your gums - which can lead to infection. Use the softest brush you can find and gently massage your teeth/ gum area to clean, as using a medium or hard brush may be too tender for your sore gums.
