22 weeks and not keeping anything down :-(

Hi. I am 22 weeks pregnant and seem to have a big that has been going round. Today has been the first day I have had it badly though. Dh has had to phone in sick to work because DD is ill too and I am not well enough to look after her.

I am just throwing up everything I eat or drink. In between being sick I don't feel THAT Bad. I mean, I feel tired and under the weather but not like anything major.

Bit worried though that I am not keeping enough down for the baby?

And when I need to be sick it is sudden, like I need to be sick NOW. I didn't even manage to get to the bathroom this morning and have just been sick now (after eating a very small cucumber sandwich to try and keep strenth up) and it is like projectile vomiting, all up the walls etc (sorry for TMI)

Even if I just have water it comes back up, and I keep heaving even when there is nothing to bring up, which is painful.

Any advice? Will baby be ok?

Yer dehydration was what I was worried about more than anything.

It is def a bug rather than MS coming back.

Been asleep since last post, just feeling really tired.

Don't really have a midwife I can ring, only number would be to ring the antinatal ward but don't want them to tell me to come in .

My DD is ill too so don't really want to have to leave her, and if I did go, I would have to leave DH here with her as it isn't fair to leave her with anybody else when she is like this.

Can you suck icecubes? If you have any fruit squash, make that up with water and a pinch of salt and freeze it into cubes. That will keep you reasonably hydrated until you can plan what to do/ organise child care / speak to doctor.

3littlefrogs · 16/12/2008 19:01

Don't try to eat any food for another 12 hours, then start with tiny amounts of plain boiled rice. 1 teaspoonful every hour. And rest.

chloemegjess · 16/12/2008 19:06

Will put some ice cubes in the freezer and see if I can manage them once they are done. Thanks for that.

Sorry, I just have bad experiences of hospitals, especially maternity wards which is why I want to make sure I need to go in iyswim?

And I have an extreme phobia of needles, and they always seem to make me do blood tests!

Do you have a temperature?

Do you have diarrhoea?

Is your mouth dry?

Are you weeing? How much and how often?

Do you have headache or pain anywhere else?

If you are weeing , and it is not tiny amounts/concentrated/dark, and you haven't got diarrhoea or other symptoms apart from sickness, you would probably be ok on icecubes only for 12 hours.

But you need to reassess if you get worse - then you should phone GP or NHS direct.

3littlefrogs · 16/12/2008 19:44

That should be ice cubes only, for 12 hours. ie: nothing but ice cubes IYSWIM.

chloemegjess · 16/12/2008 19:50

Do you have a temperature? No

Do you have diarrhoea? No

Is your mouth dry? YES

Are you weeing? How much and how often? Don't think I have been for a wee at all thinking about it. Possibly one first thing when I got up but def not since I started being sick. What does that mean?

Do you have headache or pain anywhere else? Have had a headache on and off but nothing too bad and I suffer from headaches in pregnancy anyway so didn't really think much of it. Don't have any pain anywhere else.

Baby is moving around etc so hopefully that is a good sign?

I really don't know what to do. I had finally decided to ask my mum if she would take me in but she has had a drink so can't take me, DH doesn't drive.

So it is either me drive or wait till tomorrow. Neither of which I really wantto do.

Have been sick again but nothing left, just flemmy crap that is being forced up cause I can't stop heaving.

Really hoping somebody is around to give me some advice?

chloe i'm just getting over this horrendus bug, it totally floored me on fri i couldnt move constantly threw up fri & sat and i mean constant i was so thirsty and every sip of water i drank came back.

I went to mw on mon and she said i am really dehydrated and have urine like tea! (sorry tmi),my lips are cracked and mouth is sooo dry,i havent ate since fri and still bring up everything i eat.

The mw took urine sample at hosp and said it showed something called billogen (or sounds like it sp) and said it showed i have been really sick. Anyway she did blood p, temp, listened to baby and everything with pg and baby was good
so not to worry on that front just to rehydrate myself with sips of lucozade isotonic(sp) as it has all you need to rehydrate apparently, and im feeling a lot better today. Hope this helps.

chloemegjess · 16/12/2008 21:24

Going up there now. Will let you know how I get on.

Sorry - just come back to this.

If your mouth is dry and you are not weeing, then you need to speak to a doctor or midwife.

I would speak to them first though, because you might be infectious, so best not just turn up at hospital.

Any luck with the ice cubes? They really do help - you can absorb a reasonable amount, but it is less irritating to your stomach than food/drinks.

chloemegjess · 16/12/2008 21:39

Managed to do a wee, the first one today! I had a urine sample pot at home so have done that to take in, it is very dark, almost orange (sorry if TMI).

Person at the other end of the phone not very pleasent, said "didn't you ever think to go to your GP?"

Got to go

Back from hospital, had to wait at the hospital for ages. They didn't think I wold ok enough to have tablets as II would just throw them back up, so she has given me an injection - not good when you are needle phobic

Had a very useless and rude woman do most of it. The doctor did come in quickly, she was lovely but the woman who did everything was awful.
