My sister is 8 months pg.
She's got a terrible cough, lasted for weeks and feels dredful.
She saw the Doc yestrerday who said it has turned into a chest infection but he couldnt give her anything except paracetemol due to being pregnant...
Is that right???

The labour ward called me back this morning and told me under no circumstances should I take them, and if I have taken even one then I should go in. I haven't taken any so now calling the doctor back.....

So glad you double-checked littleboyblue (and were careful enough to read the label). Do let us know what the GP says......

Glad you phoned maternity. HAve you spoken to the GP again littleboyblue?

Hiya. Went to DAU and they have told me now that I should take them! They feel that it is the only AB that will clear this infection and that baby will cope better without infection, so will start course this evening.
They assure me as my baby is now fully formed, it should not cause any damage.
Last night when I called labour ward, registrar called back and urged me not to take them under any circumstances, but now they've said it's ok........

Blumming hell littleboyblue they have messed you about haven't they. I second the not wanting to cough after a c-section, I had a virus when I had mine, and it's really bloody hard to cough with no abdominal muscles to speak of, as well as painful (memories of clutching knees to chest just to be able to cough without my insides falling out )

It may be that your sister has a viral infection, and that normally the GP would suggest anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, but because your sister is in the last trimester of pregnancy, he cannot do so.

Ibuprofen is sometimes used as a treatment for PDAs in prem baby, which is where the arterial duct in the lungs fails to close at birth, which is necessary for effective breathing outside the womb. Obviously, to close whilst in the womb would be fairly disasterous, hence no ibuprofen in late pregnancy.
