Depends on reason for induction - completelely and utterly.

Generally only clinical need will spur IOL or indeed elective section before 39 weeks, as the rates of the babies going to special care fall off fast after 39 weeks.
Having said that admission rates after 37 weeks are still low, just the baby can have a more tricky time maintaining temp, blood sugars, initiating and maintaining feeding.

Out of interest, why do you want/need an induction?

I am suffering bad with asthma and just got over flu and chest infection. In a lot of pain now so if I was allowed do they decide there and then and how long do you av to wait?

It really depends on how busy they are. TBH it seems unlikely to induce you just because you are in pain. The week before Christmas is always manic on labour wards because they are inducing all the people who need to be medically or who have gone 40+10/14 etc etc.

Also - is this your first baby? Have you been induced before? I am sure you know its not pressing a magic button and getting the baby out. Can be long drawn out (3 to 4 days), more painful than normal labour and have a much higher rate of intervention such as forceps/ventouse/em cs. Not for everyone (some breeze through it) - but as a general rule the nearer to 40 weeks or over you are, the more responsive your body will be.

FWIW, I am 38 + 4 at the moment with DC3 and although am very uncomfortable, fed up, sore etc etc wouldn't be induced now out of choice if you paid me.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'm 33 + 4 with DC2 and had a fairly successful induction on grounds that I was overdue plus my age. I'm feeling incredibly fed up and ill but would still much prefer to see if this one comes out of his own accord. Don't know how doctors consider your problems as a case for induction, but I'd really hesitate to consider this as a solution.
