I have 2 boys and was just curious to know how the odds go, as I heard if you have 3 boys the fourth is only 10% likely to be a girl! I don't care at all, but am just curious

Hi I have 2 boys age 4 and 2 and then my third was a girl who is 1. I think its a 50/50 chance no matter what you already have.

DoNotsAntlers · 07/12/2008 22:05

the odds are 50% girl and 50% boy for number 1, 2, 3, 4 etc....IT DOES NOT CHANGE (actually I think it is 48%/52% but I can't remeber whcih way).

I think that the position of ejaculation can affect the sex...I think the Y sperm are fast but weak. The X sperm are slower but have more stamina.

So if the man ejaculates high up the vagina it is slightly more likely to be a boy as the Y's get to the egg first.
If the man ejaculates low in the vagina the boy sperm are too weak to make it all the way making it more likely to concieve a girl. So sometimes the "syle" of lovemaking that a couple enjoy may ^slightly favour boys r girls...but not significantly so.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/12/2008 22:06

The odds are never 50/50, it's a lot more complicated than that.

Ok, so, it looks like there is some tendency to keep having what you've already got, but not that much - look here.

o!

The default is 51% boys, 49% girls.

It actually looks like there are some people who just keep popping out boys, but the same doesn't seem to hold for girls, based on the stats I linked to.

There is a lot of evidence for rather sophisticated gender-selection devices in primates, so I think there's rather a lot more to it than just sex position.

My friend has 4 boys!

Bubble99 · 07/12/2008 22:10

I've got 4 boys and I had 5

So you may be in for a run of blue.

I had 2 ds's and then 2 dd's. Haven't a clue about odds tho.

My db had 2 girls then 2 boys. Then another boy with his last dp.

DoNotsAntlers · 07/12/2008 22:12

I think I read somewhere that conceiving a boy can in some women change the womb to make it more likely that a woman will miscarry future (or possibly female?) pregnancies....not sure whether that was ever proved or just remains a theory though.

Oh and my aunt had 3 boys followed by a girl!

NotQuiteCockney · 07/12/2008 22:12

This article gives an example of the sort of thing that can affect what gender child a mother conceives.

BusyBeeWithThree · 07/12/2008 22:13

I had two boys and was told that it was 80% chance of another boy. I had a dd so was made up.

Ali4cotswolds · 07/12/2008 22:21

Have a look at Choose the sex of your baby the natural way by Hazel Chesterman- Philips...available on Amazon ... I got my boy!

jellybeans · 07/12/2008 22:24

I had 3 girls, then twin boys then a girl then a boy!My aunt had 5 boys and I know someone with 7 girls.

SeamusTheElf · 07/12/2008 23:18

"The effect was such that the more women ate, the more likely she was to have a boy"

That explains 2 boys!

a friend of mine had 3 boys and then fell pregnant again. She has just had a little girl!
So far I have had boy, girl, girl and I'm now pregnant again and we think its a boy. Watch this space....

chaya5738 · 08/12/2008 08:55

As a matter of probability, each conception is an independent act (ie: an act independent from the surrounding ones) so the odds of having a girl or boy shouldn't change depending on whether the previous conceptions were boys or girl.

If this is true then why aren't birthdays divided along sex lines ie: all boys having birthdays around the same time and all girls having birthdays around the same time?

I am sorry but there is no evidence to prove that we can influence the sex of our babies other than through artificial insemination!

i'm interested in this too, preg. with dc3 and have two boys. if i look at most of my friends with two children they have two of the same sex

most with three have the first two of the same sex and then the third is different.

only know one with boy, girl, girl

and one with girl, boy, girl

clear as mud!

idobelieveinsanta · 08/12/2008 13:36

Boy/Girl twins (October)

wideratthehips · 08/12/2008 13:41

idobelieveinsanta whats your mantra for keeping calm? please tell

wideratthehips · 08/12/2008 20:29

erk....did i bump it off?

shelsco · 14/12/2008 17:17

i have 3 DS's and am pregnant with number 4 and have been told that its also a boy. I wouldn't set too much store by Hazel chesterton Phllips' theories. i followed them for DS2,DS3 and latest pregnancy. did exactly what meant to for a girl but I think that some people have a genetic predisposition to conceive a certain gender!
