baby's heatbeat- how often does the midwife/doctor check?

I have just visited the midwife at my hospital and was surprised she didn't check the baby's heartbeat. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and had a scan last week, so am thinking that's perhaps the reason why?

Did she ask if you were feeling the baby move, Jzee? If so, she might not feel it necessary, especially if you were recently scanned. Personally I would always hope to have the heartbeat checked at every antenatal appointment, and would ask if it was not offered. But that's because I am a worrier. If you are at all bothered, ring the antenatal clinic or your GP and ask for it to be done. It only takes a minute.

I love hearing the HB so always ask but if you were well and could feel the baby OK then she may not have thought it necessary. There is a move away from over testing again now. If the little one is wriggling then the heart is obviously beating away.

Marina: I did tell her that I'd been having lots of kicks so I'm not too worried although generally speaking I am a worrier.
