Morning sickness - start off slow or BAM head in toilet???

I never felt sick with my last pregnancy, but this past week (I'm 6+3) I've been feeling ever so slightly queasy, with today being the worst. But I'm still not to the point where I think I need to throw up. I just feel uncomfortable and, well, blech.

Did your ms start off slow or did it hit you really fast and really hard?

Thanks!

My ms was like that. I felt sort of queasy but hungry at the same time and had an awful taste in my mouth, like a dustbin, that I just couldn't get rid of. I went off fruit and veg and wanted bread and cake and pasta nbut these always left me feeling more bleugh afterwards. I did puke a few times, always first thing or after breakfast. Both times it eased off by 14 weeks.

I first knew I was pregnant with dd when I woke up and thought "when I get out of bed I'm going to be sick" - so BAM head in the tiolet for me....

NorkyButNice · 04/12/2008 22:17

I woke up one day at 8 weeks or so, and having had no sickness whatsoever, I spent the next 6 weeks unable to get out of bed without being sick. 6 weeks off work, and some hardcore anti-nausea drugs later, I made it out of the other side of hyperemesis, into good old morning sickness (I could make the 20 minute journey to work before being sick)

So definitely BAM for me

ceciliaaherne · 04/12/2008 22:17

I felt bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeugh from about 7 weeks to about 17. I was never sick, but like nellybell, could only contemplate eating certain things and went right off others. I only felt fine when I was eating but felt 10 times worse after. And I had a taste of burst biro in my mouth. I longed to puke and get it over with- the only time I ever came close was when attempting to swallow the daily folic acid tablet.

ceciliaaherne · 04/12/2008 22:18

I have read it back and I feel sick now and I am defo not pregnant.

My sickness was a slow build up LBOT. It started at 6 weeks then got really awful around 11 and 12 with actual vomiting, up to 6 times a day. It had started with nausea and dry heaving, so was definitely a slow build as the hormones increased. Now, even at 23 weeks I still feel nauseous all day everyday, but I think I'm a rare case.

Keep an eye on it though, if you start to lose weight, can't maintain regular eating etc...make sure you get some help. In those early weeks I actually had hyperemesis, tho I didn't realise it until later down the line, it is very debilitating and some days I couldn't get out of bed.

Oh and CONGRATS!!!

6 weeks on the dot, drinking my morning cuppa, suddenly realised i was going to be sick - almost didn't make it and cracked head on loo cistern trying to get it in! similar story every day for next 6 weeks except i knew it was coming!

minko · 05/12/2008 11:27

I just felt bleugh for the first 12-14 weeks or so, I was never actually sick. First time I realised I might be pg was when I didn't fancy a coffee on the way to work - unheard of! I felt like eating ALL the time too as it seemed to make me feel a bit better. I was recommended Fox's glacier fruit sweets to get rid of the manky taste in my mouth and they were one of the few things that didn't leave a bad aftertaste in my mouth

chaya5738 · 05/12/2008 11:34

I am 9+2 weeks. I started feeling nauseous around 6 weeks and threw up twice in week 7 but that was only after swallowing my massive prenatal vitamins. I feel nauseous constantly though.

MrsMattie · 05/12/2008 11:39

Different each time.

With DS it started mildly at 5-6 weeks in and got progressively worse (although never horrendous) over the weeks - general nausea, worse in mornings, a few bouts of vomiting.

With DD I was feeling fine and asking on MN if it was normal to feel NO sickness at all 6 weeks into pregnancy - within days I was feeling a complete fool, as had my head down the toilet permanently and eventually diagnosed with hyperemesis! . God, I shudder at the memory of it

Thanks everyone!

This morning was a bit worse than yesterday - I actually gagged when I coughed a few times - but I bought a plain bagel and a bottle of water on the way to work and that seemed to help for a while. Glad to hear that others of you are feeling the 'wanting to eat all the time'. I think if something is going into my stomach it takes my mind off of what might come out...? I guess I just wasn't expecting to feel hungry while feeling sick if that makes any sense!

Oh, and LOL on the 'burst biro' and 'dustbin' tastes Cecilia and Nelly How would you ever know what either tastes like in the first place!!!! Although, now that I think about it, I'm sure I've accidentally got ink for a leaking pen in my mouth before - but I can tell you for certain I have no idea what a dustbin tastes like!

Hi Lastbox!

Glad to see you are doing well (or not well -which is still a good thing!) The old wives tale goes that a sick pregnancy is a healthy one....

I started Morning Sickness with a BAM, one day (Before I even did the pregnancy test) I was brushing my teeth and was sick without warning. That was it...I was ill continuously until it eased off around 10 weeks, then MS came back with a vengeance between 11 and 14 weeks. Now I am fine...(19 weeks today).

I know what you mean about finding the hungry / sick thing weird. At the worst of the MS, I remember deciding what to eat based on how it would feel to throw it up...i.e. chicken soup = good (Sorry if TMI!!!)

Keep eating plain food such as crackers or bagels and keep hydrated. I also found that morning sickness was MUCH worse if I was tired.

lastboxoftampons · 05/12/2008 12:51

Hi BSOL So good to see you. 19 weeks! WOW! Well done you!

I know what you mean about the chicken soup. Last night I wanted something broth-y, but we are currently without a kitchen! I ended up ordering wun tun soup from the chinese because it was mostly clear broth. Also, just arrived from New York on a red eye yesterday morning, so the tiredness is probably having an effect too! Thanks for the tips!

I'm 8+4 and first lovely puke this morning, from 5 weeks til now felt nauseous but no actual retching. Here's hoping it's a one off and I will be bright and breezy tomorrow (fat chance emoticon!!!)

lastboxoftampons · 05/12/2008 14:34

Ah, Newb I think that's the way to do it - a reassurance puke every few weeks but no continued ms Hope you feel better!
