I only measure 35 weeks pregnant (Am 33 weeks), and she is not overly worried, but like an idiot have been googling "too much fluid" and am now a little worried.
Most of the stories are from women who measure weeks ahead of their actual date, but was hoping for some positive stories and maybe a few reassuring hugs
The scan is booked for monday so fingers crossed it is a normal size baby dancing about in a lot of fluid .

try not to worry. I had excess fluid (polyhydramnios) very early on and had lots of tests, development scans etc and no cause was ever found. DD2 was born fit and healthy. I know from an obstetric colleague that the in vast majority of cases of polyhydramnios, no underlying cause is ever found

On a light note, after more than 10 wks of extreme discomfort due to the swimming pool DD2 was swimming I had an elective section and as they cut into my uterus the obstetricians got soaked by all of the fluid and I suddenly could breathe again! I thought DD2 had been delivered because I was suddenly so much more comfortable! However it was just the water!

My consultant actually skidded in the pool of amniotic fluid which had fallen out of me.

a friend of mine was diagnosed with this. She was told that she'd have to go straight to the hospital once labour started because more fluid = more risk apparently.

On a happy note she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in 38 minutes with no medical intervention and no problems

Try not to worry

Hi girlies, thank you so for this advice.
I am hoping for a VBAC with this one as DD was a EMC so I am hoping there is no serious underlying problem, just everyone being ultra cautious.
Completely know where you are coming from Geisha, I am so uncomfortable and short of breath all the time, plus have been off my food for a couple of months, as what ever I eat I can only manage a couple of mouth fulls.

if you are only measuring 2 weeks ahead, and there is of course a margin for error, i would not scare yourself stupid just yet

mppaw · 03/12/2008 20:27

Thanks Lulumama. Am sure all will be ok, but you know how the internet can get your head whirling !!!

I had a growth scan too (after similar measurements) - I'm tall and had a massive bump, so it wasn't really surprising. The scan revealed I had a "big fat heefer of a baby" (midwife's words) and the pregnancy was normal, DS was born at full term (on the large side, 9lb2oz) and healthy. The midwife also told me they can get the measurements wrong by at least that much, depending on how your baby is lying etc. Good luck, I hope everything's fine - fingers crossed it will be.
