Anyone with any experience of when the morning-after-pill fails?

Really unsure of where to post this so apologies if this topic isn't right, but....

scenario is: close friend and dh had an accident with a condom 3 weeks ago, she took the MAP 24 hours later but had no period. A week ago she did a pg test - negative. Yesterday she did another pg test - BFP.

She visited the gp today to see about an early scan (apparently a higher risk of eptopic after the MAP) and the gp basically insensitively said that the pregnancy could be failing (due to the MAP) and to do another pg test in a couple of weeks.

Sorry this is garbled, ds1 keeps trying to climb on me. Any advice please - she is ovbiously really worried now (the pregnancy now that it has happened is wanted).

dontwanttobejumpedon - i'm sorry to hear about your mc (i have personal experience of mc myself too). Do you think it was related to the MAP? Is there a higher chance of mc after taking the MAP do you know? (I mean after several weeks).

I took the morning after pill, conceived anyway, and now have a 2 year old DD who suffered no ill effects from it.

I took the map after a condom split in September ,I am now 14 weeks pg ,I had some light bleeding in the first few weeks but otherwise fine and midwife was not too concerned when I told her .

ds1 is 10 years now

I was told by GP at the time not to worry and that it should have no effect after the initial influx of hormones. Never heard it caused ectopic (but then this was a while ago now

youknownothingofthecrunch · 03/12/2008 17:38

Have just had a quick look online and research seems to indicate that although it is theoretically possible that any additional hormones (the pill or MAP) can slow down movement of the egg (possibly leading to ectopic), there is no evidence to support it.

wow this is all good news for her I just had a look at the Family Planning Assoc website and it said that there are no associated or extra risks with a pregnancy that happens despite the MAP. Thanks everyone.

and when I say generally - that's because I was about to head out of the door to take Ds3 to the doctors for a chest infection.

FAQ hope he is ok.

yes he's fine - think I was lucky and caught the start of it - his chest hadn't actually started to sound bad, it was him pulling at his ear (when he's had a cold for a few days already) that made me wonder whether he was getting an ear infection. Dr looked in his ear - was red but not infected (yet) but chest was rattling a bit.
