Congratulations

I too am pg with my second, DD has just turned one, she is walking but I am still carrying her at times.
Try to take it easy and have your DH take over as much of the lifting and what not with your DS. I am 6-7 ish weeks now and I can already feel my stomach muscles pulling and aching after I have carried DD.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 07:52

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!!

One of my best friends had her 2nd DD when her first DD when her first was only 17 months and she said it's hard going but it's the best thing she ever done.

Get a decent pushchair because you will be using it for a while, my friend got a Phil and Teds and says it's fab and you could start using it now to get your DS used to it then add the doubles kit when baby is born then back to a single again when DS is not wanting to go in it anymore so you get your moneys worth!!!

Try and take it easy a bit because it can be really tiring looking after one and being pg as well as actually having 2 so young but I'm sure its all worth it! Remember DS and LO doesnt need a bath everynight if you cant be bothered then a quick wash will do.

And routine is always the best thing I reckon if you can settle into one that accomadates both DC's then it makes life soo much easier and you will alwys be more organised.

Will stop bleating now HTH a bit.

DustyTv · 01/12/2008 07:55

Oooh yes I second the Phil and Teds, DH and I are saving for ours now and we will be getting it as soon as we have the money to get DD used to it. They are fab.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 07:59

Are you getting the Sport or Vibe Dusty?

Mentioned friend had a Vibe and a Sport, she got the sport cheap from Ebay and Vibe was bought by relatives as they didnt know she had bought one but the Vibe was nowhere near as good as the Sport apparently. So I'd save your money and buy the cheaper one you get them for decent prices on Ebay.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:02

Ooh or the Icandy Pear looks lovely and both DC's can face you then.

Sorry pramaholic here

DustyTv · 01/12/2008 08:05

I was looking at the sport the other day, I had to go to our local (and very expensive) pram and baby shop in town as nowhere else had them in and I wanted to get my hands on one lol.
I have always liked them.
I have looked on ebay and I am happy to get a second hand one off ebay but DH wants a new one I will probably get one of ebay though. I saw one for £150.00 with the doubles kit the other day. I was that I could get it for so much cheaper.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:08

I reckon that's about average Dusty Im not sure if you will get much cheaper TBH especially if you are buying the cacoon(sp?) for LO.

DustyTv · 01/12/2008 08:09

Sorry lilimama for the hijack

I looked at the icand and it would have been okay but DD hates facing me, she likes to face out, I think she gets bored of looking at me all day long

lilimama · 01/12/2008 08:10

Thanks for replies!
Re the pushchair... You've hit the nail on the head....my most anxious topic.
We have no downstairs space, as we have an apartment on floors 2 and 3, so I have to dismantle the darn thing on the street each time and carry DS up 2 flights of very steep and narrow (Dutch) stairs and then come back for the frame. Am bracing myself for this routine whilst having baby in sling at same time. Can hardly imagine it. Really scared of that, as I'm already totally knackered after carrying DS up, then the frame, then the shopping, meanwhile DS starts screaming upstairs. And whilst very pregnant? Can't imagine this will be easy. Breathing deeply is the only thing that helps each time.
So, Phil and Ted's double isn't gonna work, as need something that baby stays in, like the bugaboo seat/maxi cosi whilst ds walks up and I carry everything else. Hopefully, DS walking will help. Or hinder, if he decides to dawdle with me behind him with heavy kit in hands. Infact, not even sure if we will be able to get out of the house at all on our own. Must try not to worry.

Guess I'm going to have to a) accept as much help as poss and b) go really slowly.

When I priced up a new one with cacoon and rain cover etc it came to £517.00 ish and I was big (mum was speachless lol) so at £15.00 I was very happy to see that I could get it cheaper, not sure if I need the cacoon as lo is due around the middle of July.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/12/2008 08:16

Congratulations Lilimama. I remember your labour thread last New Year - it had me on the edge of my seat.

My best friend has 18 months between each of her sons (she has 3!) and she says organisation is key to getting out and about with more than one - and taking any offer of help going.

Her eldest 2 are 4 and coming up to 3. they are best friends and play beautifuly together.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:17

TBH I'd get it just to pad the seat a bit Dusty it didn't look comfy at all for a baby I have to admit. Although the cacoon only lasted 3 months.

Lili do you have a certain car seat you need to be able to put on a pushchair? Or can you buy anything that suits IYKWIM.

DustyTv · 01/12/2008 08:18

lilimama, I can understand the worry, we have limited space here also but no stairs to use before we get to the house.

All I can suggest is to get your shopping delivered so you don't have to worry about that, make sure your DH is contactable and has money when he is at work so if you need anything you can ring him to bring it in on his way home.

How would you feel about getting a lock for the pram/pushchair and taking the kids up and coming back for the pram/pushchair. Don't know how that would work, I know I wouldn't be comforatble leaving them on their own.

I am sure someone will come along with some good advice on how you can do this. You still need to get out and about, I know it saves my sanity. I would hate to be stuck indoors all day.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:18

Lilimama how about a sling for LO and a stroller for DS?

lispy · 01/12/2008 08:19

I had mine a few months closer than you and have enjoyed it so far!

The good thing is number one will never remember life without number 2 so there shouldn't be jealousy. I'd start now by pointing out every baby you see to #1 and make a big deal about how lovely they are etc. Especially when you see/hear a baby cry make a little joke about "oh the baby's crying ha ha".

My DS1 always loves hugging DS2 and laughs (nicely) when he cries instead of getting upset. I always refer to DS2 as DS1's baby and try to ignore the baby crying when DS1 needs attention.

Double pram is a must. I tried to use a sling/pouch and have DS1 walk but that ended in disaster. I wouldn't spend a bomb, hopefully you'll only need it for a year or so...

In the long run everything will work out brilliantly as you'll always be catering to the interests of the same age group.

You'll hear the comment "you have your hands full" often... I didn't find it overly difficult in the first couple of months as the newborn doesn't do much.

lispy · 01/12/2008 08:22

Another thing, I saw a lady pushing a pram with the "skateboard"attached at the back and she had the baby car seat / maxicosi thing on that and the older child in the pram. I'm guessing the older child will stand on the board when newborn needs the pram? You'd have to look around, she went past to fast to get details!

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:36

Graco Stadium Duo

THis is a good pushchair too, some of the reviews are awful but I know 2 people who have this and it's fab! It's one of the lightest but still quite heavy although not too bad.

The back seat is compatible with the Graco autobaby car seat which is highly reccommended too.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:37

Oh and its one hand fold! Quite bulky but TBH I think it's fab for the money just buy a snuggle or something for the LO in back or both and it'll make it nice and cosy!

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 01/12/2008 08:46

This is a fab deal!

£180 for pram, car seat and raincover!

Sorry thats the last comment from me PROMISE

littleboyblue · 01/12/2008 08:49

Congrats lilimama.
We found out we were preg again when ds turned 10m. I'm now 30wks and he is 16m.
It was hard carrying him everywhere especially as I got bigger coz he can't rest on my hip comfortably.
I let dp get ds in and out of the bath as find it difficult getting up and down.
At the start, when ds was on the floor, I'd have to get down, lift him onto sofa, stand up, nd pick him up from sofa as he was so heavy.

You'll find you just get on with it without really thinking because you have to. This pg will hopefully be easier for you too as it is for me. Don't really have much time to think about it, so alot more relaxed than last time.

Goodluck

noonki · 01/12/2008 08:55

I was 11 months when preg with DS2.

The first few months are a bit mental, accept any offers of childcare.

The best pressie I got was my sister paid for 10 childminder sessions with my childminder. My childminder did 3 hour slots for the first few weeks (she came to the house and picked up and dropped off ds1)

The only thing I regret is that now DS2 is the same age as ds1 was and I realise now that DS1 was still a baby when DS2 was born, I think I expected so much from him as he wasnt a little baby. Maybe that is the norm with the first born!

lilimama · 01/12/2008 08:56

thanks everyone...

the skateboard thingy...it's a bugaboo invention...will look around as we have a bugaboo.

these comments are really helpful. Keep them coming if you have anything to share.

Also, we feel like knowing the sex this time.

But I see from other posts that it's incorrectly given much of the time.

hhhmmmm....

In the same position DS will be 16 months when No 2 arrives!

I have a bugaboo too and am gutted at the thought of getting something else but know that I will need to as I walk too much for DS to be able to walk when No 2 arrives. I have looked at those seats you can attach to them but to be honest, I think that DS will be too young to sit on a seat like that and I'll still need somewhere for him to sleep when we are out and about.
