Hello
Sorry for ANOTHER SPD thread (did a search and there are loads )

Am now 24.5wks I have had symptoms of something that might be SPD for about the last 9/10wks, can anyone please tell me if this does sound like genuine SPD or is this normal pregnancy stuff

Symptoms:

  • tail bone pain that tends to feel worse after sitting down for long period (like at work)
  • getting really stiff after sitting down for long periods, makes me walk like granny. Struggle to get off sofa in the evenings...
Also now reallly stiff first thing in the morning
  • constant pain at top of inner thighs like I've been riding a horse or doing something else fun!
  • lately getting grating pain in pubic bone and also acrosslower back

Mentioned to MW last time and she said get support pants. Couldnt find them in shops (too painful to keep looking around) so I got a belt which helps a bit but not much. Going to see her on Tuesday and I'd really like physio referal.

Wondering if Im just being a bit pathetic about normal preg stuff or I really am suffering from SPD and I should take it more seriously.

thanks- sorry so long!

SOunds like spd/sacro-iliac issue.

You are not being a wuss - it hurts and you can do feck all without feeling it.

Get to physio or whatever asap.

Call physio dept of local hospital direct and ask if they have an SPD workshop and then go to your GP and ask him/her to refer you to it.

SPD hurts like hell - I had it both times

Paracetamol/osteopathy/physio can all help though.

Thanks WhoMoved.
Saw MW yest and she said physio wouldnt do anything other than give me a belt and tell me to wear lycra pants!

Should I push harder for referral? Will it really help.

thanks

yes sounds like spd, pubis dysfunction... i had it so i sympathise. i went to the oestepath found him more helpful than physio... her tip was not to cross legs and to get up or off chairs etc with 2 legs on the ground... oestepath seemed to relieve the pain....

Definitely get a referral for the obstetric physio -they can't do a huge amount but can at least advise you on how to turn over in bed, get out of cars, off sofas etc with minimal pain.

They can also give you crutches which can help a bit

I'd agree def sounds like spd, and may get worse if you're not careful. Do try to get a physio referral, if only for the advice as norbert says.

Don't be doing any exercise as it can make it worse

The NHS physio I was referred to by my GP gave me exercises to do as well as a support belt, so it's much more than just lycra pants!! I also used a walking stick which made a big difference. The sooner you start on all this, the more effective it will be IME. Surprisingly, the exercise that made the most difference was pelvic floor contractions!

Wow thanks for all your tips.

Just discoverd that my work private health insurance covers this so im going to get an osteo or physio referal and do that.

Realised how bad its got now. Its not normal to barely be able to walk along street from tube station to office or walk to get a coffee in canteen.

We have some crutches at home (DH has bad knees, now better) so can use those. Am sure he will enjoy showing me how to use them
