Are baby girls' heartbeats slower than boys'?

Does anyone know if this is true? Saw MW today & we listened to h/beat. Altho' faint (I'm 20 wks BTW), my 1st thought on hearing it was that it was significantly slower than when I was expecting ds. Would've asked MW at the time but only recalled someone telling me this later on.

Thanks in advance.

Thought it was the other way around Bears. Remember because I thought it explained why we can multi-task etc

I thought it was the other way around as well, sorry.

How weird! Ds could have unusually fast heartrate then!!(?).

Boys are supposed to have the slower heartrate (139 bpm and below), girls the faster (140 bpm +). However for every midwife you have who believes this rule you'll find another who says it's codswallop; my midwife wouldn't even discuss it with me because she said it's nonsense, I had to look it up on the net when I got home!

Bear in mind also that babies' heartrates slow down the further you get towards the end of pregnancy, although I'm not sure when exactly or by how much this changes. I got a reading of about 150 bpm at 18 wks.

Ive read this a many times as being a myth about pregnancy. Never have read it as being a reliable fact. Just like the myth about carrying low and carrying high. Totally opposite for my 3 pregnancies.

IIRC my girls did have faster heartbeats than my boys, but until they were actually hooked up to a monitor it was impossible to tell if they were above or below 140 - they all sound like galloping horses!

Thanks everyone. I've come to the conclusion ds is going to have a little brother.

I don't mind - it's just that dh & I are having great trouble with boys names (girls name is sorted). We've been searching for ages believe it or not & can't agree on anything! We want a non-popular name, but not too unusual either. I think it's particularly difficult 4 us 'cos our surname is a single syllable.

So we'd better get our thinking caps back on then...
