Why do my babies never want to venture over to the left side of my womb??!

Seriously, DS never did during the whole 9 months of pregnancy (well the bit I could feel where he was anyway) and this DC2 is just the same. Permanently lodged over the right hand side, either posterior or anterior. I don't understand why, because I sleep on my left side almost the whole night and do as much as I can to shift the baby over to the left...to no avail.

With DS my placenta was to one side apparently, so I can understand that if it was over on the left he would not want his face shoved up against it (I mean, who would?) but with this DC my placenta is high anterior so there is nothing stopping him from getting in a nice LOA position.

This is a serious concern, honest, because I had a nightmare long labour with DS and would try anything to get this baby lined up properly before labour, to give us the best chance of a straightforward birth.

Any idea why this could be? And tips for getting him LOA? Am 36 weeks and the baby is not engaged at all yet. Cheers

All three of mine were hunkered up on the RHS but that is because have a bicornuate uterus and they couldn't curl up or turn around. I remember DS2 being particularly difficult as he kept his head under my ribcage and braced his feet against my pelvis on the LHS and the just s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d.....

Sorry that was completely unhelpful to your situation

maybe the left hand side isn't very comfy? perhaps there is a ghost ther???? ooogh

no, sorry I have no idea.
fwiw though, I had a horribly long nightmare labour with ds1 who was in a good position.

6 hr labour with no pain relief with ds2, and he was back to back.

so, don't assume it'll be as bad just because he isn't in the perfect position atm! (or even as you go into labour)

No not really! When did you find out you had a bicornurate uterus? Was it at a scan? It has crossed my mind that I might have some sort of unusual womb but I have been scanned 4 times in pregnancy (2 with DS and 2 with this one) and had a laproscopy and scan for painful periods years ago and no one has mentioned anything.

A ghost

That is reassuring thisisyesterday, thanks. I do feel that things will be better this time - or is that just that they couldn't be much worse?!

I found out about the bicornuate uterus after a botched ERPC prior to having my children. The surgeon was scraping away at my uterus and nothing was coming out, eventually he punctured my uterus with his scraper. They did an emergencty laproscopy and realised that the missed miscarriage was in the other half of my uterus. I don't think it can be seen under normal ultrasound conditions.

Oh gosh poor you. Did it affect your labour (the bicornuate uterus I mean)?

I had three elective c-sections due to transverse lie which is common with bicornuate uterus. I think septate uterus is a less serious condition, where there is just a small septum left instead of a clear divide. A friend had a septate uterus, 2 normal pregnancies and reasonably straight forward births, but couldn't deliver the placenta properly on either occasion and needed an intervention to get it out. It is thought her placenta's were on the septum and not embedded onto the wall of the uterus. Good luck with your DC2 - you ust be due around Christmas.

That's interesting, thanks. I am due on 22nd Dec
