Should a transverse baby really be this painful?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and whereas a week ago I would have said I felt uncomfortable it's now really quite painful.

I've been told to rest as much as poss but DH is away on and off until Christmas and I have a very active 20 month old toddler to look after. Both my family and the in laws live a fair distance away.

I don't want to bother my midwife if she can't do anything but it just hurts so much.

Is this just the way it's going to be until the baby hopefully turns? DS was breech and didn't turn till 34 weeks. If the baby doesn't turn I guess it would be a caesarean but would I have to wait till 37 weeks - another 10 or 11 weeks of this is not a nice thought!

I don't know the answer but at 27.5 weeks with a transverse baby it is extremely uncomfortable. I also don't have to run about after a toddler but picking things off the floor is just about enough to bring a tear to my eye at the moment....

I have a GP appointment next week as just moved so am going to ask if anything can be done but suspect it is too early.

It isn't fun is it. I'm 30 weeks and have also been uncomfortable with a transverse baby (and an active toddler!). I don't know if the baby has moved recently (perhaps to oblique) but it doesn't feel as painful under my ribs now as it was 2 weeks ago. I've seen a homeopath and a chiropractor so far. Have you had a look at the spinning babies website? www.spinningbabies.com/

I have a low lying placenta so think that could be why this LO is transverse - hoping he will move into head down position when placenta 'moves' up (actually also hoping placenta moves up!) as I'd rather avoid a CS.

Thanks for the link elibumbum. Anything is worth a try really - right now I just want it to stop hurting!

Hope everything works out for you (and for you too scubagroover).

My baby was transverse for a few weeks, about the same time as you - is now breech, and I'm having a section on Monday. It wasn't painful when she was breech, but she did seem to catch under my ribs more when she was that way up - when I bent over - like my ribcage was actually rubbing across her ribcage and our bones were jarring together. That's stopped now she's turned (the wrong way! silly baby).
