Hi - am looking for a light weight buggy, which is suitable from birth, which we can "off road" with through fields and in the woods. Any recommendations? Thanks

if you want to go through woods then you need a proper 3 wheeler such as a mountain buggy either the terrain or urban model. I think lightwieght may not be doable, the decent ones are light to push but usually around 10kgs to lift in & out of the car. XTS twister, jane slalom are a couple more brands

Mountain Buggy, definitely. Terrain has a fixed front wheel, which isn't so convenient for around town, Urban has a swivel front wheel which can be fixed for off roading.

love my jane is really lovely to push, has last well too despite being fairly harsh with it!

rislip · 25/11/2008 18:24

another vote for the jane. i love mine.

MB or Quinny Freestyle (older version)

I know a couple of people with Out N Abouts, they certainly get taken off road and seem to cope pretty well.

if you can get a hold of one get a Landrover - you can get an option of a cot seat, they are an amazingly lightweight buggy that deals with being up mountains, in the sand and equally in the supermarket! they stopped making them but you can pick them up off eBay - expect to pay about £100 for a second hand one - the upside is the fabric is machine washable and comes up brilliant with a quick wash in the machine

mountain buggy urban is so fab! all my friends wish they had mine

constancereader · 25/11/2008 19:36

mountain buggy, but get the all terrain one, the urban one is not good off road imo. I love my mountain buggy.

tengreenbottles · 25/11/2008 19:51

if you dont mind second hand then you cant beat a landrover ,really light , i could lift mine one handed over gates etc ,and there is a cot insert ,that some people sell with theirs ,the only down side is not being able to attach a carseat .

dizzydixies · 25/11/2008 19:52

I have the old jane powertrack 360 for when DD1 was born over 5yrs ago

still going strong and I'm on DD3!!

cmotdibbler · 25/11/2008 19:53

Get a sling for off roading - you can't beat them for lightness and handling

SquidgyBrain · 25/11/2008 19:59

oooh if you are looking at landrovers also look at pegasus and pbtrekers. they are all the same - the difference is you cant remove the wheels as easily as you can with the landrover. I just love mine which is why I have the double and the single!!

tsom · 25/11/2008 22:16

MB terrain - unbreakable imo, nicely weighted so steers ok even with fixed wheel on terrain model. Had a double one when ds 1 and 2 were small, then got a single one just for ds 2. Fab

I offroad my Quinny Buzz with ease all the time - woods, bridleways, unmade tracks etc. Anything more seriously off road starts having stiles etc which are a PITA, so I use a front carrier for those kind of situations. DS has a MacPac babckpack to grow into. He is only 11 weeks old.
