Hi,

I wondered if anyone can share their experience about 1st appointments / scan at Kingston (well, apparently these are done at Queen Marys).

I've read nearly everywhere that the first visit/scan is around 10-12 weeks. I've chased up my appointment which they say won't be until the day before my 14 weeks is up.

Is this usual? And is it okay to wait this long?

I'm very new to all this. If anyone has experienced similar I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks x

Hello!

I'm due to give birth at Kingston in April and am having all my pooirntments at Kingston (but this does vary based on where you live). I had a booking in appointment with the midwife at 8+4 and my nuchal scan at 12+6. The nuchal scan as I understand can be anytime between 12-14 weeks so you wil be completely fine at 13+6 - don't worry!

I have my next scan at 20+6 and this is around average for them I think, though I know a few people who've been nearer 22wks.

The sonographer was very nice when we were there - no excess chat but then she's there to do a very specific job. I was surprised at how quickly it was over and how many questions I forgot to ask at the time. Make a little list if you have any, and Do ask her to point out the various bits of baby if it's your first child.

Enjoy it all...it'll come round in no time!

I had my booking in appointment at Queen Mary's at 9+6 and my first scan at 12+2. If you're worried just call them and double check that that won't be too late to take a nuchal fold measurement - I'm sure it'll be fine as long as it's before 14 weeks.

After your scan they'll send you straight off to have your bloods done so I was there longer than I'd expected to be. It's worth taking a book!

My next scan is also at 20+6.

Everyone I've seen there has been lovely so far.

Also don't forget to take cash so you can get tokens from the machine for your scan pics - I THINK it's £2 per picture!

I am at kingston but have had scans etc at kingston hospital (as flirty says - depends on where you live but St Mary's is far nicer than kingston so is a good option - also far far easier to park !). I had booking in appt at 12 weeks and first scan at 13 weeks, second scan at 22 weeks. I had the appointment through somewhere between 7 and 9 weeks (was on holiday at the time and it came whilst I was away) but this may be different as its Kingston.

Good luck - I had my dd at kingston and had a high risk pregnancy and think v. highly of their treatment. I am expecting DC2 in March and so far my treatment has also been v. thorough as am having extra monitoring due to the problems in my first pregnancy.
