Aww sorry hun i have heard but never needed one good luck i'm sure you will be ok.

Try reposting with cervical cerclage and maybe someone will answer, at first i though your post meant a "stitch pain" like pain in your side.x

WorzselMummage · 19/11/2008 19:06

Oh i'd not thought of that

I'm sure anyne who had had a stitch would know what i meant though, i have done a search and it doesnt seem to be something that's discussed a lot on here so there probably isnt anyone who's had it done.

Thanks for replying

Hiya - just joined this and saw your message. Yes I had a stitch in August and it was fine. Had general anesthetic and didn't feel a thing so don't worry Cant have sex for rest of pregnancy tho!!

WorzselMummage · 19/11/2008 20:11

Did you elect to have it under GA Soph ? They have told me it'll be under a spinal, i dont mine either really but i always bounce back immediatly after a GA so might push for one, i cant imagine its much find while your awake.

Why did you have it done if you dont mind me asking ?

( PS, i am quite pleased about the sex thing, its a lot of effort )

Hi again I was initially told in the morning Id have it under epidural but then by 4pm when I finally got to go down to have the op they said they'd do it under GA. Think it just depends on the anesthesist that does it and what they are used to - wasn't a long op though so wasn't under the GA for long.

I had it done cos although my first baby Ive had a couple of loop diathermy ops in the past and this scrapes off cells from cervix so could possibly have weakened it so to avoid chance of miscarriage I was always told that when I did get pregnant I should have this stitch. Didn't want my baby to fall out!!

Sorry this may now be too late cos you are supposed to be having it today but really I think if it is being recommended it's for a good reason and I definitely haven't had a bad experience from it...apart from hanging round all day with no food in the hospital - boo

Its been cancelled today, i have to go in tomorrow at 8am now. I'm to scared to do anything today now and poor DF is terrified, i decided to send DD to mils after preschool and spend the day ironing and watch repeats of much loved films and DF wouldn't even let me get the bloomng ironing board out so he's set it up in the lounge for me.

I am the same as you, I've had 3 lletz's and god only knows how many colposcopys, 3 D&Cs too so my poor cervix has taken a right battering.

Gutted its starting to go already though, My dd was Prem so i knew it was always on the cards but i thought i;d get further than 22 weeks

What have they told you to avoid with it in ?

Sorry to keep firing questions at you, feel free to ignore me

No worries they didn't really tell me to avoid anything. In fact by the time I finally finished at the hospital and had come round from being groggy and stuffing my face with food, the doc had gone home!

It was only the sex they told me was a no no before I had the op. Oh I think they said don't do vigorous exercise and also not to go to the gym for a month which was the perfect excuse!

By the way Im new to this site and know ill probably sound really thick but what is DD and DF - I think I can guess but wanna know what they stand for? (I got mil!)

Hi both,

just noticed you messages. I haven't been here for a while.
I am currently in hospital waiting to feel my legs again. Just had the stich done only under spinal anesthetics. It was fine but not particulary pleasant as I could feel everything but it was bearable.
I am only 12 weeks but they decided to put one in as I lost my twins earlier this year at 22+5 due to cervical incompetence. I was really worried about it when they told me they'd rather put the stitch in as there are some small risks associated with it, but when I found out that my cervix went from 50mm to 26mm in a few weeks this early in pregnency i think this is the right thing to do.
They said that the cervix can be short but must not open and that's what the stitch prevents. They said to move around slowly the first few days but afterwards it will be ok to act as normal. I am going to do yoga and slow walks but nothing more. Just to be safe.
I hope this helps a bit and gives you some comfort that they are doing the right thing. Apparently this procedure is done a lot and has a very high success rate. I hope it all goes well for you tomorrow. Please ask more if you wish to.

Hi

I had a stitch at 18 weeks and as my cerivix was v short and starting to open I was told to take it really easy and avoid all lifting. Am now 30 weeks and baby is still where it should be!

It was hard at the beginning to avoid lifting things (especially as have 2yo and 4yo) but have got used to asking people for help and telling kids I can't lift or carry them.

Try to take it easy and get your feet up when you can.

Soph its Dear Daughter or Dear Finance/Husband/Partner.. its a bit weird really, i dont know anyone who calls their othe half they dear anything !

I got out of hospital today, i had to stay in as had a pretty tough time in theatre. It took the surgeon an hour when it should have taken 10 minutes to do and my spinal block wasnt complete so i was in pain and getting scared, my BP was allover the place and had a fair bit of bleeding, its was a horrid undignified experience thank god for G&A although tbh i wish i'd had a GA

He managed to do it though and said he hopes it gets me to at least 28 weeks, hopefully to the end but said i dont have much cervix left atall because of all the treatments so i have to take it really easy, no walking, lifting or pulling etc. I am planning of spending the next few months laying on the sofa.

I hope all out stitches keep the babies whete they are meant to be until the end

x
