Going away when 35 weeks pg - is that wise?

I've just arranged a long weekend away in the UK for my Mums birthday, for the whole family, I'll be 35 weeks pg. Have I just done a stupid thing? For some reason before I booked it I thought it's fine it's a month and a bit before the due date - no worries. Now I've just booked it and paid I'm starting to fret that it's not a wise idea.

Suppose I'm looking for reassurance!!!

As long as you are pretty close to a hospital I wouldn't worry. I would do it!
You will have lots of people around to help out if anything does happen (highly doubtful!)
Am 37 wks on Friday and still driving/taking train journeys upto 2.5 hours.

sounds like a great idea. think 35 weeks far enough away from EDD. Its more whether you are tired/up for it by then. But its good to keep active and planning; if you sit around waiting for the baby to arrive those final weeks are absolute hell!

fourlittlefeet · 18/11/2008 15:10

actually, they are a bit hellish anyway

It'll be fine. Remember to take notes with you. I went to France (working) with dh on Eurostar at 38 weeks and had dd 6 days later.

I remember asking my doctor (who is fab) and he said, well I could write you a letter but it will cost you, of course you won't have your baby early

I travelled from Scotland to Liverpool for a weekend when I was 36 weeks pg. We were visiting family though so wasn't too worried about anything happening although I was absolutly shattered!
Go and have a good time!

Thank you, feel a bit more rational about it now! Only 21 weeks at mo with 1st and have no idea what to expect. Hadn't thought of it from the point of view of lots of people to help.......or to wait on me........

i flew longhaul until the last allowed minute and went on holiday 4 hours from home from 37 - 39 weeks. i'm probably not the best person to ask but it was fine. i did call the hospital over the road at one point whilst we were away (on christmas day iirc), but ds did eventually wait until we got home (waters went within 12 hours).
make sure you know if the airline requires a doctor's cert to allow you on board, or wear a puffa jacket lol.

I'm 38 weeks and took a weekend off in London about 3 weeks ago. I was fine, took it easy... and of course didn't get offered a seat on the tube.

Well as someone who has just given birth to dd2 at 35 weeks plus 2 days I think its a little rash. And I had absolutely NO warning just woke up on the morning with a pushing feeling and she was born by lunchtime! But then everyone is different but personally no way would I risk it unless I was happy to go into labour at the place I was travelling to.

Thinking about it I refused to go to my fathers 60th birthday weekend away because I was at 37 weeks with dd1. My dad was abit put out but had to eat his words when my waters broke on the Saturday. I was so glad I was at home in London with the hospital down the road rather than in a rented cottage in Wales. Sorry but I wouldnt go.

Crikey! Even now it never really occurs to me that I could go into labour. First one was scheduled c-section at 38 weeks, have no real concept of giving birth. Don't listen to me!

fourlittlefeet · 18/11/2008 19:29

wow kerala at your labour!!

I went away with DH and DS1 for the weekend at 39 weeks pregnant with DS2. Just made sure I had a multimap print-out for the nearest general hospital and my notes in my handbag. It was fine.

I went away for a wedding weekend that was 5 hours drive away when I was 39 weeks pregnant with dd1. I really would go. Don't put your life on hold as it is unlikely that you will go into labour. Also - if you do - just pop along to the local hospital with your notes. Just check which nearest hospital has a maternity department before you embark on your journey.

I packed a car seat and a hospital bag as extra's!
