Hi all,

I am 20 weeks pg with dc 4. During my pg with dd 2 (5) I had sacroilliac joint dysfunctiona and was on crutches, and prescribes painkillers. Not a good time.

With dd3 (2) I had no trouble at all.

On saturady I decided to get a bit over zealous with the house cleaning. I spent an hour on the floor trying to scrub my minging oven. Which by the way is still minging, grr!.

Anyway when I came to get up I found it a bit difficult. My back had gone stiff an was a bit painful. I still decided in my wisdom that it would be a good idea to push my dd in her pushchair down the town and to my mums (all up hill). By the end of the day I was in agony.

Since then I have been in varying degrees of pain, mostly bad. My back is still very stiff and I am having referred pain in my left leg. When I move to do something (get up off chair, stand up from bending)it twinges.

Dh is away until January and I have 3 girls 6 and under to care for so rest is not an option.

I am self- medicating with paracetamol and ibroprofen at the moment. But it only dulls the pain a little, other wise I am in constant pain.

Now it's only been a few days, and my gut reaction is to leave it for a little bit longer and hope it starts to get better by itself. But I dont wont to make the problem worse by ignoring it.

What would you do in this situation?

Should also note that in between dd2 and getting pg with dd3 I was very ill, with a degenerated disc and suspected arthritis. Which lasted the best part of 2 years. So back pain is a sensitive area for me.

Thanx for your advice.

Ibuprofen is contraindicated in pregnancy. Manufacturers advice is not to tkae. Please go and Dr.

Wobbly pig, Thanx for that.
I was led to believe that ibroprofen was fine to take apart from in the last trimester. I was prescribed this in my second pg, but warned not to take it once I had entered the third trimester.

The main worry is in the last trimester because it can cause premature closure of the one of hte heart tubes and lung problems. The Britich National Formualry do clump of these tablets together with the advice that manufacturers don't advise it. They are probably being cautious. I am very cautious myself.
They can also increase any tendency to heart brun/ acid and bleeding. So I personally wouldn't take.

I had horrible sciatic and hip problems in my 1st pregnancy which are coming back now in my 2nd.
I had a fab pregnancy physio attached to the hospital. Just think it might be safer than the tablets.

Thanx- My mind did wonder to the idea of physio, I was given this as a matter of course while pg with dd3, tho didn't reslly need it. It was entirely preventative.

I just thought I might get laughed out of the surgery going in this soon as it's only been 4 days.

I had terribe sarcoilliac pain with my first pregnancy and it's come back with a vengeance now (I'm 28 weeks with my second). I've been seeing a physio for a few weeks and have a back brace, but to be honest there's not a lot they can do apart from try to minimise the pain! Get yourself along to the GP and they will sort you out a physio appointment and prescribe you adequate pain relief. You have my deep sympathy, I know just how debilitating this is!
