My placenta is in a position which cushions the baby so midwife said I wouldn't feel too much kicking etc...however now baby is getting bigger should I feel it more? I do tend to feel it a little in the night/morning... Anyone else in the same situation? would be nice to hear from other people so mind can be put at rest!! How often are you supposed to feel it? Can you tell this is my first!!!!

I had an anterior placenta with DD1 and I too didn't feel excessive kicking. As long as you are feeling something (which you said you are), then everything is fine. If you are worried though, speak to your midwife.

if you are worried, the standard advice is to have a sit-down/rest/relax for about 20mins or so, and eat/drink something ice-cold and sweet. The cold/sugar is supposed to make the baby jump around a bit, but you have to be still and "listening" to really feel it. If you are still worried you can talk to your midwife or birth unit.

good luck

Thanks, your right I am feeling something, I'm seeing the midwife next week so will mention it to her..I think that I'm just worrying as it seems that my pregnant friends are saying that they can't sleep from the kicks etc..I need the midwife to reassure me!

Just to reassure you, I am 39 weeks pg and my baby's movements have been few and far between (in comparison to my first baby/what others say). I tend to get 'pushes' and flutters rather than kicks over 2 or 3 periods in a day. However, even with DS, who was a real wriggler, I never had those 'ouch' kicks that other pg ladies seemed to get.

The most important thing is that you are feeling something and it is if that pattern changes, that you should be concerned.

This baby has always been a lazybones throughout the pg and I am sincerely hoping that he will continue this pattern once out in the world this week

ugg my ds slept all night and kicked all day!

I am pg now (possibly up to 23 weeks - we don't know!!) and I am feeling v few quicks, but my dsis/mw assures me this is just because I'm too busy to feel 'em! (toddler + moving house = busy busy phdlife...)

try the ice-cream thing. I've heard it recommended hundreds of times. If I had time to sit down I'd do it myself

(I am not really on MN. I am freecycling...)

Thanks ceebee74...have a feeling mine might be a very chilled out baby as when had nuchal scan it wouldn't move into postion for anything - cold water, chocolate etc..hubby is chilled out so probably takes after him!! Phdlife I love the advice on sitting for 20 mins eating something sweet - that will be easy as I can't get enough chocolate anyway!!

The placentas of both my pregnancies were anterior and to be honest didn't feel the babies moving nearly as much as I would have imagined, worried alot and even went to hospital in a panic once!. Have a healthy DD and DS now, try not to worry. Easier said than done though, I know!

yay to chilled babies
