Prescribed laxatives - safe for baby at 23 weeks?

Of course, if the doctor says it's ok, I guess it's ok, but then they've said that about other medicines that turned out not to be...

Was prescribed a liquid laxative to relieve my ridiculously bad constipation but surely, as I have to drink it in water, it will go through my baby's system too? The ingredients dont look very natural

Has anyone else been taking prescribed laxatives or encountered any problems with them?

have you tried feeding some sugar water to the baby?
My sil swears by a little piece of soap insered into the anus witha lubricated finger to get things moving...
Hope this helps

Could be tricky Ronalghino - baby is in utero!

If it's lactulose it stays in the bowel and acts as an osmotic laxative drawing water into bowel. It is one off few drugs licensed for use in pregnancy. Lots of mums use it if they get piles.

haha, no I'M sorry, that wasnt clear at all!

Anyway, it is Lactulose so it's good to know it's just going to make my poo soft and and not whizz round my tiny unborn baby.

And I'll keep the soap trick in my 'things to remember when she's born' file in my head. Thanks!
