Hi,

Before i found out i was pregnant (many moons ago), my one cat suddenly kept following me around. We used to let them roam the house at night and they'd choose to sleep on the sofa but he would sleep on my tummy or if i was on my side - he'd be right next to me. He became very clingy. We then found out i was pregnant and i swear he knew before we did...... when i was around 13 weeks pregnant, he left me alone and hasnt bothered me since.....

My other cat (they're biological brothers) became quite clingy from week 20 onwards, he insists on sleeping on my lap and when he purs, the baby moves and kicks him - it's like they talk to each other! In the last couple of days, he's gone off his food and his treats like milk and although he has the odd cuddle - he doesnt want anything to do with me and much prefers to follow DP round instead. I've spoken to the vet who said to keep an eye, because he isnt vomitting etc they'd doubt he's poorly but more likely to be making a point. I spoke to my mum and when she was pregnant with my older sister, their cat at the time did this around 5 days before she gave birth.

We havent neglected them, infact lavished more attention on them both knowing that soon we won't be able to.

Anyone else have freaky kitties?! Any advice?!

Thanks!

My cats did this. He LOVED me up until about 1 month before DD was born.

However, once she was born he LOVED her and now that she's crawling she chases him around the front room and he's purring his head off, then he "falls" on the floor, DD catches him, crawls all over him, pulling hair etc and Salem purrs away and looks like he's in heaven.

I swear if someone saw our household they'd think we were cruel to our cats but he's just wierd and likes it.

My mum said that - her cat loved my sister, they had such a bond! I'm a little worried with him incase he gets a bit excited and hurts her. I dont think for one moment that he'd intentionally do anything to her but although he hasnt shown any interest in her nursery or moses basket etc, everyone is freaking me out saying i need to buy nets etc incase he decides to cuddle up to her in the basket to protect her and ends up sufficating her etc......

Our cats used to have the whole house to their disposal but once DD was born we stopped them from coming in our room at night. Now however (dd is now 10mo) they are back to being allowed anywhere. You do need to be careful about them sleeping on your DC as cats like to curl somewhere nice and warm and your DC's cot will be lovely and warm.

Although don't worry about them getting too rambunkshuss (sp) My Salem is an absolute nutjob but he knows when he has to be careful and hasn't hurt her once yet (even when he told her off for pulling his tail a little too hard, he left his nails in and just padded her on the hand) and I'm not kidding when I say he's a nutter!! He seriously is..... runs around the house like a kitten.

Hehe, he sounds cute!

I have found for the first time ever today, one of ours asleep in her moses basket! We've had the one in our bedroom for around 8 weeks and they havent been interested, we've left the nursery room door open for the last 12 weeks - complete with cot, and nope, dont care one bit. We've had the moses basket in the lounge for 3 weeks and again, not an ounce of interest. Why today then has he suddenly decided to take a liking to it?! Twice he's been in there!

We've got him out, told him off and shut him out of the lounge - he better get the message!

Grrrr!

My partners cat did actually start sleeping on my bump and even weeing where I slept but he seems to have gone off me now. He's still lovely but he's not as especially drawn to me but perhaps that's because he's now not allowed anywhere near our bed and he feels punished. I feel bad butcat wee is not nice on your pillows and we can't replace them constantly.

Hi lovemuch - do you think he was trying to mark his teritory so to speak? Maybe he feels that you are his property and this baby is trying to take over so he was telling it that you're his - in the only way they know how! Not nice, i can understand. It is hard keeping them happy but also making them realise that they're lower than you. Our two were quite spoilt, we let them sleep anywhere (within reason) and they've shown an interest now in her moses basket and rocker and we've obviously had to kick them out so they go off and sulk.
