My friend has a one month old (first baby). I've visited them a couple of times but am trying to give them space to just enjoy being a family (her dh was there for 3 weeks with them). I want to support her and let her know I am here if she wants company, but not deluge her or make her feel guilty for not replying to things. Not sure what section to post this in so thought I would here. Any thoughts those of you with children.

My dd is now 10 months - I love getting texts as if I am busy there is no need to reply straight away!

I love getting texts - text her and if she texts straight back then you can phone.

any other thoughts?

I'd agree with the texting as it gives new mum space if she is dealing with baby to get back to you later, but it's still showing you're thinking of her.Plus it won't wake the baby (unless she has a horrible text alert...) I would just text and say to her what you've said here too: if she fancies a chat on the phone or some company for a few hours, then she should say and you'll be glad to catch up with her, but if she is snowed under then not to worry and you'll wait for a good time. I'm sure she'll appreciate that.

Sorry, should have said I am waiting for the arrival of my 1st DC so can't speak from personal experience yet, but I have gone through this recently with two very good friends and I think this is what they'd say.

Trust me, you cannot win. If you ring durig normal daytime hours you will wake the baby or her, from a nap. Bad move.
Any time during 5-8pm is crying time.
After 8pm and you will be a thoughtless cow as she will have gone to bed.

At least, that'smy memory of it all....

Text loads .... all my friends "gave me space" and I was really lonely!! I LOVED getting texts and phone calls and visits, - able to show off beautiful baby, and did not feel so isolated.
xx

Text and tell her that you're available to visit if she wants, but no problem if she doesn't.
Don't ring. Fmv is about right.
