Just wondering if they are the same as every other? Never had one with ds1. Just wondering if they are likely to agree to do a sweep? DH away mon-fri's with work and if baby doesnt come over a w/e will miss it. Just wondering if they are likely to do it if i beg?

They'll probably do the standard checks (fundal height, position of baby, blood pressure, urine etc) and also check your cervix to see if you are effaced / dilated yet. Unlikely they would do a sweep until you are over your dates. I really wouldn't beg . If you're cervix is still not ripe there is little point in a sweep.

p.s. I know that frustrated 'just get it out!' feeling all too well

Depends, I think if you are 'ripe' they might be persuaded , but don't know

I had sweep at 38 weeks, but they wanted DD to come on out, and I was ready.

They gave me a date for midwife coming round to do a sweep at my 39 week check in last pregnancy which was only a few days over 40 weeks.
Wishing you luck, I am 38+2 today and my husband working away mon-fri and can't even contact him overnight as no reception where he is. Luckily (I think!) I have c secion booked on monday!

its just so stressful at the moe coz come sunday night i can feel myself getting tense knowing hes away for the week and i can also feel myself relax ome fri coz i know he'll be home soon. We have 2yr old ds who i have arranged my mum to come over to sit with and somebody who will take me to birth center but there is no one else i want with me other than DH. He also getting bit stressed as doesnt want to miss it either...

How about a nice relaxing dinner and some hanky panky when he is home on friday...worked for me! . I had the sweep, nothing much happened, was booked for induction on the monday, went out for a lovely dinner on the friday, bit of hanky panky that night, in labour 5am saturday morning, baby born 11:47pm that evening...that would be perfect for you!

Hope it works out for you ok

the thougth of sex just makes me feel sick though. We havent since i was about 5 months! Same with ds1 pg. I dont know what it is! Also same with nipple twiddling, just gets sore! Am having EPO and RTL but all the other things i think arent really going to do anything..

When it comes to curry, how hot does it have to be to do anything? I hate spicy food (also have an extra mild curry!) so wouldnt know what type to have to upset tummy?? Does it have to be hotest on the menu?? Id do hot curry just mouthful of water every other!

I think with curry its the spices irritating your gut that start some bowel movements and then contractions. If (if) I'm right, then surely it just needs to be hotter than normal - so for you just mild rather than extra mild.

Got my fingers crossed for you for this weekend

If he was my husband I'd make him call in sick! Sorry if that's not helpful.
Does he work abroad or something then?

Good luck!

mad4mybaby · 13/11/2008 21:08

yes he does and hes a contractor so if he doesnt work he doesnt get paid and we wouldnt be able to afford to live. Need to save the little amount he will have off for after baby born
